While Dylan Brady and his collaborators are all clearly talented musicians capable of making very fun and inventive pop music, it seems that on Cake Pop 2 they're resting on the laurels they earned with 1000 Gecs. Each Brady release before this saw him crafting an entirely new sound, each bolder than the last, but this album plays things a bit too safe. He clearly got the formula right with Gecs, and everyone has to make a living, so I guess you can't blame him much for locking in to the sound that worked for him.
