4.0 excellent | MaggieG | August 27th 14 | An improvement over their debut LP yet some generic tracks keep the band from elevating to their true potential. They seem to have too much in common with fellow Welsh post-hardcore rockers Lostprophets and Funeral for a Friend that The Blackout never really seem to possess anything original to their sound. Still, 'Shut the Fuck Uppercut' is a tremendous opener with some great screamo vocals and 'Save Ourselves' is one of their greatest hits.

0.0 | EddieMarais | February 19th 13 | Much better than their debut, but still leaves something to be desired. Whilst it is more original, and has ditched what seems a necessity on most post-hardcore albums in dispensing with the slow, melodic romantic track, [ see: "It's High Tide, Baby!" from We Are The Dynamite ] it lacks the diversity and drive to push it that little bit further - popularity over sheer quality seems to prevail with the song writing here.

3.5 great | Jones | September 18th 12 | The best release in what is otherwise, an average back catalogue from the Merthyr Tydfil rockers. They strike a perfect balance between Post Hardcore and Pop Punk to create a fun, accessible album that is worth a listen.

3.5 great | TRMshadow | April 9th 11 | Obviously not anything really amazing, but some very listenable pop post-hardcore/punk. 3.7/5

4.5 superb | DaveyBoy EMERITUS | August 6th 09 | During a year in which many post-hardcore heavyweights released albums, they may all be upstaged by 6 young Welshmen. The secret to The Best In Town's success is that The Blackout have combined heaviness with catchy & accessible melodies. While the energetic dual vocal dynamic still exists, the band has matured & progressed in almost every facet of their craft. They are not looking to push the boundaries of post-hardcore, but simply perform the genre better than the majority of their peers. Immensely enjoyable & crowd-pleasing, this is a surprise A.O.T.Y contender. Recommended Tracks: Save Our Selves, This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things, ShutTheF*ckUppercut, Top Of The World & The Fire.
