How the fuck is a funk album featuring Bootsy Collins on 4 tracks so boring with the bass?
Oh, cuz they didn't ask Bootsy to do the bass. Apparently, Bootsy Collins is just a meme for
his voice now.
The rest of this is just Bruno's typical R&B style with some nostalgia disco thrown in.
Seriously, what's so special about this? Bland lyrics, boring predictable grooves, and a
weirdly short run time. Yet it has a higher average than D'Angelo's Black Messiah? I can't
help but to hate this.
Fine, it's not awful. A 2.5/5 works. 5/5 for marketing though, this was advertised as
transcendent. Is a little ingenuity in funk too much to ask?

Before I get blasted for not giving this a higher score, this debut album from two of pops most legendary and accomplished artists, Anderson .Paak & Bruno Mars, is probably one of the best soul records of the year. No question of that! Also, this could easy go down as one of the greatest tributes to the classic soul sound of the 60?s and 80?s scenes. Pretty much all these tracks are equally catchy and sensual without losing one bit of charm. My only gripe with the record is that it comes off a bit ?one-and-done?. Each track is such a powerful nod to all the predecessors of soul, but that?s really it. It?s well executed and performed classic soul and that?s really it. I really wish they tried to do something a little new. Still really really amazing album that will equally get you on mood while making you cry.

The chemistry and personality of the two artists is exuded in every corner of this silky smooth album. Though the singles on this full album are still the highlights, this full length project captures the mood and accomplishes it very accurately and professionally. If anything, let's hope this collaboration leads to better things for each artist's work and the mainstream music process as a whole. Silk Sonic is a pop album not to be missed, and it could be regarded as a classic by this generation in years to come.

Funky shit that should have been released in May or June. Cool bootyshaking record lifted by a damn fine production.
