Although I was very excited with the debut,
Crash seemed to me not an equal sparkling
moment. It goes without saying that Crash is
equally technically competent, however the songs did
not have the same catchiness as in the debut and the
majority are mellow ones. Still, there are various
great songs here such as "Tripping Billies", "Too
Much", "Two Step", "So Much To Say", "Proudest
Monkey"

Even if the first half is stronger than the second, I could give Crash a 5 star rating only for '#41' and 'Two Step'. Call this band generic, repetitive, bad or whatever, the truth is no other mainstream rock band has pulled a record as eclectic, diverse and addictive as this one.

This album is the definition of Dave Matthews Band. True, this is not their best album (definitely 2nd) but this album defines defines their sound. The difference between Crash and Under the Table and Dreaming is that there is a way better live version of every song on the latter, leaving the album to be semi difficult at times to listen to. And sure, that may be true with Crash, but the live versions do not greatly over shadow the album. The studio version of "Crash Into Me" remains one of the band's best recordings, as well as the studio version of "Two Step". Every song on Under the Table and Dreaming feels like a shortened version of a longer live song. With Crash, it feels like these songs were made first, and then they were drawn out for live purpose. This is where everything came into place for the band and you can not listen to this album and not feel at least somewhat happy or moved or touched. This album is what Dave Matthews Band is about, as well as what music is about. For anyone who has not heard Crash or UTTAD, this has probably been incredibly confusing.

This album is truly a classic. Every song is catchy, upbeat, and radio friendly. Carter Beauford rips it up on the drums playing some of the most unique patterns and fills I have ever heard. Who cares if it is 'adult alternative,' Crash is the Dave Matthews Band's most consistent effort from track one to twelve.

I grew up listening to Dave Matthews on the radio, but I only really appreciated the band until my Sophomore Year in high school. A developing drummer, I was sucked in by Carter Beauford's beautiful grooves, and was soon hooked on the fantastic music on this cd. From 'Two Step' to the spectacular #41, this album is all about one thing: pure music. Although I don't listen to DMB as much as I used to, this album remains a classic of the jam rock genre and a lesson in musicianship.
