This guy can play. In addition to that, he does have a veey nice sense of music and melody. Combined they make for a great album, however of course it could be less cheesy and pompous. Overall really great though. Not a big fan of the commentary between tracks either.

Contains some really good melodies and shreds and some wankeries here and there, still far from being a classic. Erotic Nightmares, Ballerina 12/24 and For the Love of God are perhaps by favorite tracks from this album.

Vai's masterful response to Satriani's Surfing With the Alien. This album is great and extremely rewarding. Vai's approach to his instrument is nothing short of impressive, he's the guitarist that many aspire to be.

Van Dragonforce, in a word. I know Van Halen came before and Dragonforce came after, but that's what this album is. Endless wankery that sometimes sounds really awesome, but most of the time just gets tiring. Not to the completely deplorable level of crab-core, but still a chore to listen to in my opinion. 3.1/5

Containing some absolutely spectacular guitar work, this album is widely considered to be a masterpiece, and for good reason. The instrumentation is brilliant, and the song structures are varied and interesting with plenty of variety. If you are a guitarist, or simply someone interested in instrumental rock, you must get this album.
