| 4.0 excellent | Kroehny | March 26th 21 | Ben is not getting weirder and weirder like others have said here, this album doesn't come anywhere close to matching the level of composition that went into IFWWW or Noonday Dream, it is very simple harmonically. There are some solid stand alone songs on this album but the cohesiveness of his previous two efforts made you get lost in their world. The level of repetitiveness on this thing makes it a bit dull to listen to the whole way through. Random drum-machine beats with guitar lines buried in the mix that are nothing reminiscent of Ben at his most virtuosic. The best thing to come out of this album cycle so far was his variation of Far Out on YouTube, but even then it pales in comparison to anything on IFWWW or Noonday. Edit: inevitably grown on me a little in terms of having a number of take-away singles, but as a cohesive unit it still doesn't work.

| 3.5 great | po0ty | March 27th 21 | Seemingly less ambitious than Noonday yet Ben continues to push outside his comfort zone. At times he blurs the line between singer-songwriter and poet with his understated crooning vocal delivery. Songs like 'Far Out' and 'You Have Your Way' have a cyclical soothing quality about them that is juxtaposed by off-kilter offerings like 'Unfurling' and 'Finders Keepers'. The latter pair are some of my favorites on this as I find their dissonance very intriguing. Not really sure why he chose to end on 'Buzzard' though.

| 2.5 average | Erwann S. EMERITUS | March 26th 21 | Pretty, but boring. Pretty boring. Dessner continues to craft albums that only confirms his recent love for all things yawn-inducing yet ultimately ear-soothing. Howard's guitar playing is mostly dull here, as is his vocal performance. Basically, there ain't nothing here that comes even close to "End of the Affair".

| 0.0 | didnt ask to be staff, was made staff anyway, then got demoted for not doing staff stuff | January 17th 22 | I admittedly never had the patience to fully appreciate Ben Howard's body of work. I mostly found his song-writing scant and too reliant on the atmosphere and lush sound than actual finesse, palette, vocal or lyrical performance. Of all his albums, this is the perfect example of what that means. Drab, overlong, messy drag that often seems to repeat the same few ideas in different patterns.

| 3.0 good | ajcollins15 | April 1st 21 | For the UK-based singer/songwriter and folk music guru there was going to be a time when he brings it back home to create a more traditional folk release than what he had been doing. After the magnitude drop of his 2018 ?Noonday Dream? I had high hopes for what Ben Howard could do. His fusion of ambient textures with psychedelic folk instrumentation created one of the more creative listens I have heard. On his most recent release, he goes back to what made him famous with his more fluid and indie sounds of his debut ?Every Kingdom?. On first listen there is a bit of a shock at how simple the album is, but there is still a charm to the record. Is this his best release, absolutely not and I can see him really hitting a great record in the future. But for someone who makes an album every 4 or 5 years, it?s understandable. Still, there are a few dubs on this record, and the album as a whole is rather blotted with 54 minutes of material. If this was 30 minutes and change it would have been a great listen, but overall, Ben loses himself sometimes. Still a solid release.

| 4.0 excellent | Lucman | March 31st 21 | I'm not quite prepared to say this is better than Noonday Dream. Am I prepared to say it's my favourite and will probably be my most revisited down the lane? I'm certain of it.
