R.E.M. Follows Murmur up with Murmur Nr.2

R.E.M. Follows up their extremelly succesful ,,Alt.Rock Classic'' Murmur. Everyone is eager to find out what this album actually sounds like....Aaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnddd then everyone is happy bc. ,,Reckoning'' is really similiar to ,,Murmur''...another Charttopper

I am trying really hard to like this as much as murmur...but I just can't..Well that happens I suppose. ,,Reckoning'' just isn't that great in my opinion, it pretty much sounds like worse version of ,,Murmur'', Instrumentally it sounds equally appealing...The jangly guitar work, punchy drumming (Those Hi-hat triplets in some of these songs are gorgeous) and less-punk-y bass, is still really enjoyable.
The problem I have with this album is mainly in the songwriting...To me ,,Reckoning'' doesn't have too many catchy or memorable moments...Off course I love songs like ,,So. Central Rain'' ,,TimeAfterTime'' or ,,Litle America'', but other than that, most of these songs are so ''Meeeh''
to me..They are not bad at all, I just think, their little bit too safe and uninteresting for the most part..Plus some of the ,,Multi-Vocal''/Layered vocal choruses are just distracting to me, the great example of that would be ,,Harborcoat'' song I LOVE, until the chorus kicks in.
Well Dissapointed in this..But Hey...Just Opinion
