| 4.0 excellent | iarescientists | June 24th 09 | As I'm sure everyone knows, I'm not really a metalhead. When I do choose to listen to metal I tend to gravitate towards bands with a certain atmosphere (Wolves in the Throne Room) or bands that are extremely heavy/brutal/etc. (Converge, Harvey Milk, and I'm not sure if most people consider grind to be metal, but I think they're close enough). "Great riffs" were never really enough for me to like an album, and I'm not really sure why, but the riffs on this album really stick out to me and I don't know if that means I'm turning over a new leaf or if the riffs on this album really are great or if the production is just a lot better than other riff-based albums I've listened to, but whatever the reason, this albums slays.

| 3.5 great | Infernis | June 21st 09 | Bit more aggressive and in vein of hidden hands in terms of aggression. Generally nothing new explored for the most part with some exceptions...riffs are what you'd expect from Darkest Hour, but it's constructed very well and John Henry sounds a lot better...as does Darkest Hour as a unit. Solid album probably between 3.5-4. Lonestar does a good job throwing in some nice melodies that create unique tones for the songs when they appear as well. Drums are for the most part variations of the skank beat the whole way through, but it works well.

| 4.0 excellent | YouAreMySilence | December 24th 09 | See, for me when metal bands grow into a more melodic sound I usually enjoy it more than when their me "aggressive" I guess. Maybe it's just because I'm not much of a metal fan myself, but this statement is usual proven true, but like almost every "rule" when it comes to music, there are expections. An exception for me would be with Darkest Hour's newest The Eternal Return. Its not that I didn't enjoy Deliver Us, infact it was one of the first metal records I ever purchased, but it always felt like alittle bland. So when I first heard that their new record was streaming on their myspace, for nostagic purposes as well as curiousity I immediatley jumped at the chance. And on the first listen I was very impressed with the approach that the metalcore act had taken. Though it lacked the "singles" that their previous record had, The Eternal Return had much more flow and seemed more organic. And after a few more listens its fair to say that this is one of my favorite metal records of the year. THERE IS NO GODD!!

| 0.0 | cvlts | July 2nd 09 | This is coming from a guy who gave Deliver Us a 2.5.
In The Eternal Return it seems that Darkest Hour is returning to their roots; the more in-your-face riffs; a little lacking in the melody arena, and produced by the same guy who did Mark of Judas. While there is still no doubt that Deliver Us was a good album, it never really clicked with me. This one is a little more easily accesible to get into. However, after like 7 albums down the road, this album does seem a little redundant and maybe not the progression of a band that we have known since '95. That being said, this will definately get more fans for Darkest Hour to those who want to give them another chance... yet it might alienate the listeners who loved primarily Deliver Us.

| 4.0 excellent | Jim18 | June 24th 09 | I found this album really interesting. I feel they're excelled so much from their previous releases with the amazing solo's especially The Tides and addictive riffs. With the songs I've listened to of Killswitch Engage's some what may seem dissapointing new release, its obvious that Darkest Hour have proved that metalcore isn't a dying genre and where the bands descend to the main stream universe, It seems Darkest Hour definitely haven't done that.

| 3.5 great | minimesmyidol | June 24th 09 | Good album. definitely heavier than their past material. Although it would have been nice to hear some more of the clean vocals shown in in Deliver Us, its a strong release by darkest hour

| 3.5 great | Phantom | June 23rd 09 | Another solid release from Darkest Hour. Nothing majorly new is brought to the band's sound but it's still heavy, dark and more importantly, fun. Mark Carrigan proves that he is a more than capable replacement for Kris Norris.
