| 3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | May 22nd 15 | Underground deathcore band Hester Prynne hails from Kansas City and does deathcore right: fun, fast-paced, some decent breakdowns, and a death metal-like energy. The album, though not exactly a story, is kind of a concept album, dealing with a divorce due to infidelity, and the lovers revenge in murder. And it's actually not half bad. True, it would be nothing without the music behind it, and the band takes care of that well. With excellent drumming fronted by guitars with menacing tones, the instrumental work is very good. The vocals are generally easy to understand, and though they can get grating, are pretty well done. The album isn't all breakneck speed and breakdowns, though. Take for instance a few synthy breaks placed in the middle of "That Night, A Forest Grew", and "Bad For Business", and the ambient intro to "Seventeen Is My Favorite Number." The best moment on the record is "Leann Legore", in which a very atmospheric build-up interrupts a monstrous romp. This explodes into a wonderfully crafted guitar solo, which leads into an intricate breakdown. Overall, a solid release from a little-known band.

| 4.5 superb | SeedOfOulu | March 31st 15 | This is deathcore done right! The goswell divorce is an excellent album, which should be recognized as one of the best in the genre. Songwriting and musicianship are top notch, these guys are definately talented. Riffs are superb, catchy and memorable throughout, and so are the breakdowns, occasional solos and song structures as well. Not to mention the versatile, and powerful vocals, that vary from pig squeels to low growls effortlessly. Highlights include That night a forest grew, Casketing, Leeann legore, title song, Seventeen is my favorite number and An ambulance in traffic, with some of them (forest grew, casketing, leeann legore and seventeen) being truly amazing!

| 3.5 great | UberRetroBanana | April 4th 10 | Good riffs, solid drumming, decent vocalist. They overuse bass drops though, about 2 or 3 a song, and the lyrical themes are just deathcore cliche now. Other than that its a very good debut release, and I look forward to any more releases from this group

| 4.0 excellent | deathmetal101 | September 28th 09 | came across these guys's music through myspace, and instantly liked them. in my opinion the goswell divorce is a pretty solid deathcore album. i can definitely hear the hip hop influence incorporated in some of their songs (ex... lets give the boy a hand) not really into this type of genre but like i said these guys are pretty good. anyone who hasnt heard them before should definitely give 'em a try

| 3.0 good | IWhisperedSilence | June 22nd 09 | This band really has potential. Good deathcore band with some pretty fucking memorable breakdowns. Vocals aren't really nothing special but the guy has a great range. Recommended for any fan of the death metal/deathcore area.

| 3.0 good | SuckleMyKnuckle | June 1st 09 | Hester Prynne is no doubt a group of kids who got into Death metal a few years ago, and really got into JFAC, Suicide Silence, and BDM. They got together and took thier favorite elements from these bands, combined them, and added in out-of-place hiphop/electronica elements that I'm sure they thought was really innovative. Either way a lot of the songs on this disc come together nicely and end up being good for a listen or two. Noteworthy tracks include Leeann Legore, which has a quick instrumental of softly played guitars leading into a predictable but effective breakdown; Bad for Business which sits square in the middle of the album and provides and awkward and some what random seeming hip hop-esque electronica instrumental; All Roads Lead to Hell which starts off with a gimmicky "Break, break, break your'e fucking neck" vocal intro which I'm sure will be used effectively in their live show to boost the crowd; and their strongest track overall, That Night a Forest Grew, which come together with generic but effective riffs and BDM flourishes sprinkled through out, a gimmicky synth riff melding into a guitar riff, and a strangely catchy chorus. Offering more then just chug-chug riffs, Hester Prynne contains some fun Deathcore that takes the genre no where that it hasn't been before, but does it nicely and entertainingly. If you hate Deathcore, you'll hate this album. If you like Deathcore, you may find enjoyment from this Disc, but don't expect to find anything groundbreaking.
