I don't usually give classic status to albums I just heard, but I truly think this is good enough. Her most mainstream album yet, it is also her most amazing. Not many artists manage to combine accessibility with quirkiness like Regina does. The album is full of her beautiful piano playing and sparkling melodies. It even has bounciness - like on the opener "The Calculation." She does not venture into alternative rock on Far, but "Machine" is the closest, with its ominous mood and somewhat spooky chorus.

It's everything I had hoped for, and then some. It's the perfect balance of beauty and the quirky pop she's always been known for. My only gripe is the recorded version of "One More Time With Feeling" got a more upbeat twist to it, when I thought the sultry and sad version she played live was much more emotional and suiting. But overall it's better than "Begin to Hope" and about at the level of "Soviet Kitsch". She's done it again!

Regina Spektor sure has come a long way from that quirky, crazy stuff that she used to do on her earlier records Songs and 11:11. While some hail her new record as a "safe pop record" I see it as a change in direction, and one done quite well. While it's true that this is her most produced and "normal" album to date, it also comes off as one of her best. Spektor has quite the knack for righting interesting, forward-thinking pop songs and this album is proof of that. There is not a bad song on here and that's why this album gets high marks. This is only a dissapointment if you've been waiting for Songs version 2 (or Soviet Kitsch version 2).

Exactly the kind of follow up Regina fans hoped for. Catchy, unexpected in all the right places, and full of all those little witticisms that make Regina so charming. What sets this album apart is the unleashing of her vocal range: always butter smooth and crystal clear, Regina ditches some of the gimmicky quirkiness for a more purely impactful performance.

Look down at your feet provided by the skin goddess and there lies three tiny bottles. Next, take a look in the mirror like the piece of glamorous hoisin sauce you are to see a large piano above the head. The instrument belongs to American singer-songwriter/pianist Regina Spektor who was born in the Soviet. For the longest time, I didn't bother diving into Spektor's catalog up until now, though the angel in me does remember seeing the video for "Fidelity" through VH1. Anyway, the woman's fifth studio album Far has convinced me very well that checking the rest of her stuff is something duly noted. This record here demonstrates Regina's skill to merge accessibility and some thoughtful oddness nicely, and though a lot of the songs may seem simple on the surface from a composition frame of mind, multiple listens are bound to prove otherwise; they're man's best friend. Far is as vulnerable as it is strong. Angel recommends: "Eet," "Machine," "Human of the Year," "Genius Next Door," and "Man of a Thousand Faces".
