I probably shouldn't be reviewing this, but since my dad plays it all the time, I'll just give my honest opinion on it... it sucks. It's honestly pretty tasteless. It's basically the same crap Nickelback does, just in Ska form. But hey! I'm a complete jerk, just ignore me.

Personally one of the classic ska albums that truly dabbles a bit in everything regarding their punk rock and reggae influences. This is practically a summer staple for my ears. I even dare to say this album is a bit under-appreciated, or at least is ought to be on par w/ some of Bob Marley and the Wailers' middle discography.

40 Oz. to Freedom is nothing if not a classic of its generation. Fantastic album, extremely diverse and eclectic, with some solid guitar leads courtesy of the underrated Nowell, tight drumming and wicked bass playing. Truly an album of the ages.

I would have loved to write up a review for this album, as its one of my all time favourites, but there really isn't too much that I can say about it that wouldn't be redundant of other reviews. All I can say is that this album launched a sound that (at least for me) defines not only a decade, but holds a timeline all its own.

40 Oz. to Freedom, Sublime's first full-length album, is a great combination of rock, reggae, ska, and punk. Some may complain due to the horrible mixing done at some points, or even because of the low quality of some of the songs. However, neither the quality or mixing takes away from the pure musical talent of Sublime. From Bradley's whining guitars to Bud's crazy beats, 40 Oz. to Freedom is a solid album. Although the album contains many standout tracks like Smoke Two Joints, Badfish, and 40 Oz. to Freedom, the best part of the album is the fact that most of the least-known songs are just as strong as the more famous tracks. Sublime had the recipe for success and with 40 Oz. to Freedom, they sure have cooked something tasty.
