Hearing Joel Ekelof sing is like eating through a loaf of stale bread. Despite being more technically proficient, I
have no idea what elevates this band from the generic hard rock and metal that gets played on the radio. This
band severely lacks texture.

Soen's best record to date. Great melodies, rhythms and variety throughout. Dissident and Illusion stand out as exceptional tracks.

A concise and poignant album, while maintaining the variability and emotion Soen are know for. A magnificent release.

Soen record that feels just a little different, which is nice. Vocals are indeed somewhat more emotive, but the thin production really hurts the record... A fuller production with more bass and high end might make this their best record yet.

Soen diverge further from its Tool influenced origins and move toward a rather derivative, paint by the numbers hard rock - metal fusion of non-offending albeit unmemorable tracks. A deliberate effort to polish and streamline for a more mass commercial appeal consequently diminishes the unique identity of the band.

I'm new to Soen and while it's not bad, I fail to see the "prog" in this.

And their path towards mainstream continues. Albeit I may dig more albums such as Lykaia f.e. this can be seen as they creating their own thing, instead of emulating Opeth with Tool.

It has a couple highlights, like Illusion or Dissident, but I can never find myself
enjoying it. The perfect example I can give for this album is like if you'd share a bowl of
ice cream with your friend, but you leave to get your phone, and when you come back he has
already eaten the best parts of it. Sadly, what your left with is the generic vanilla that
is at the bottom of the bowl, but you're already sick of the vanilla. You came to eat the
ice cream for the new and tasty parts, but it's already all gone. That's what my experience
was. I just wish they could have just stuck with what they had early on and varied instead
of using the same deadbeat riffs that is so generic that I keep slapping myself in the
face, only to realize that this is Soen just sounding like another generic metal band.

Might have to finally concede that the Soen effect is wearing thin. After firmly establishing their sound in lykaia
and lotus - this is really just more of the same - but for the third consecutive release , well, I?m now hankering
after a change - something more.
