Wow god we're up to HIM. There's really not a lot you can say about them. They revel in being some kind of love metal band. Thing is, they don't have any technicality whatsoever, and "love" doesnt describe their overall sound very well. A better title would be "bland and monotonous/pretentious radio rock." Ocassionally there'll be a decent moment, sure, but mostly its the same old boring vocal performances and guitar parts every time. Oh, and the drummers fat. Which means when he takes off his shirt for concerts, woo boy.

Even if this is HIM that's the main subject, Dark Light is so unabashedly melodramatic that it's absolutely tough to find more than one or two tracks here which are actually quite decent. Ville Valo and his ministry of darkness soil themselves with more black mascara than a Gothic queen trudging through the vacancy of a condemned mansion. The sound this band has sort of works for whatever genre they're most classified under, but the listeners are begging to hit the 'stop' button due to how dry pretty much everything is. Recommended tracks: "Wings of a Butterfly" and "Killing Loneliness".

Dark Light is Ville Valo at his most hedonistic. The peak of HIM's noughties' success.rAn ambitious, almost cinematic album, Dark Light is an absolutely wonderful example of what you can get out of relatively simple material with a good producer. Tim Palmer and HIM really pulled everything out what they had to work with.

Arguably the turning point in an already questionable career, Dark Light found even die-hard fans of the band finding themselves more and more alienated from this point on. Things had been getting weaker and weaker as the band progressed, and their image was more than tiresome far beyond this album. Still, something about this feels like they've finally decided to settle on medicority and are never going to attempt to attain something greater.

I went through a phase where all I listened to was HIM and now I'm stuck with half of their albums. Dark Light is the most listenable out of the ones I've got but I'm sorta sick of hearing their music now...

HIM is probably one of the easiest to hate bands on the music scene now, but there also have their own fanbase that is quite loyal. Your enjoyment of the band highly stems from how you feel about frontman Ville Valo. The band has a sound that is unique to say the least, mostly because of Valo's deep voice. I dont understand why this band labels themselves as love metal. Love is the last thing I think of when I hear them, having loved them lyrics doesnt always convey the emotion. For HIM expecially this is true, since the music is heavily bland at time and uneventful. That being said the album has a couple decent tracks that can make an ok listen. However IMHO there are far better bands out there.

I actually loved this album I think that the band is awesome Im not a gothic person or a casual listener to any rock music. I think that most people are really looking for the same old stuff thats on played on the radio every day. HIM is a diffrent type of band. They know theyre different and thats why I like them
