at first I thought, ok Animals as Leaders/Praxis' "Mold" album... but its exceptional beauty, especially on the final track, won me over. another setback for me to start scaling my ratings back ahaha

It sucks when a genre grows off of you. Even though you can find intrinsic qualities to the album you're listening to, it does not make you vibe. This is a consistent prog djazz record, like Plini has always delivered. It knows when to be heavy, and to create lush atmospheres. The jazzy bits are cool (the sax at the end of "Pan"), the synths are well-integrated. Yup, this is a quality record. I just wish I could care.

The Australia-based guitar guru is back with his sophomore record and he continues to be one of the biggest names and driving forces in the instrumental metal scene. I listen to a lot of music and I have been following Plini for many years now and there is something so mesmerizing about the way he brings in jazz influences into his very intense and theatrical metal instrumentals. There are many out there that try to be like him but can?t. However, with all that said this is still extremely short and many of the tracks I feel could have been explored and extended into longer and more intricate ways. Also, many of the tracks feel like Plini is adding pizzazz for no real reason (kind of like the most recent Jacob Collier record).

got my download early for preordering the EP and I've run through this about 6 times in the last 2 days. this is fantastic. unsure if it'll surpass Handmade Cities for me but it's pretty damn close. Plini proving without a shadow of a doubt that he's the king of instrumental prog metal (or whatever you wanna call this genre)

I bought the LP of this album. The music had such a unique vibe that I couldn't resist the urge to eat it. This is not a metaphor, I ate the whole thing. Had the best time of my life, 5/5 would eat it again.r

This is Plini at his best. He's doing whatever he wants without any regards to conventional structure, style or what people expect of him, and he (and the band) is enjoying every second of it. It still sounds recognizably like Plini, but at the same time it's completely different in sound and feel from his previous works. He's playing with dynamics like never before, and he's not afraid to take a back seat to let the song develop and leave space for other instruments to shine (unthinkable in a guitar album!). He wanted to play a risky move and try out new things, and itrworks so well.

This is by far the worst Plini album that has come out. Only two songs that scratch that Plini epicness are "I'll Tell You Someday" and "Pan". Most of the songs are either so boring they drone on, or they are just full of excess wanking. Even Pan is guilty of it but at least it works as a strong metal song. Anyways, he's been slowly regressing over the past few albums and I wasn't surprised.
