This is the type of Nick Cave lite that would either make critics dismissive or weak at the knees. Looks like the Veils lucked out and got the stamp of approval from fans of literary wild man songs. As with Cave, I find the cabaret schtick less appealing than when it's played straight. But in places it's really pretty.
