| 4.5 superb | TheIntruder | August 27th 15 | Trespass is the sweetest, delicate, fragile, romantic, innocent, naive and pure album of Genesis and it has their first masterpiece, The Knife. This is the best known song of the album and their heaviest too. As we know, Genesis became known as a group that have never explored the hard and heavy rock territories. So, The Knife represents that style. However, Return Of The Giant Hogweed and The Musical Box of Nursery Crime contain also serious heaviness elements. Trespass has a certain mystic artistic aura. It is full of emotions that flow nicely and elegantly from poetic, impressionist and pastoral mood to aggressive and dramatic theatrical scenes that only Genesis can do.

| 4.5 superb | ThrashK | February 28th 15 | Laugh at me for giving this a 4.5, but this is some really enjoyable folky progressive rock. The
mood is quite light for the most part yes, but at the same time adds to the mysterious feeling
which I like.

| 2.5 average | GamamJ | September 7th 20 | A solid step in the ight direction (as far as I understand). Have not heard the debut, but apparently it's full-on pop. On here are prog aspects all ove, and the opener and close full on prog-rock, The Knife being a masterpiece. The rest of the tracks are trash though, putting this at a solid 2.5.

| 3.5 great | Deadwing2112 | March 14th 20 | Albeit pre-Hackett/Collins, Trespass lays down the blueprint for future classic Genesis records. Rather underrated in the band's discography cannon especially with The Knife in its presence. Tony Banks is most prominent on the keys throughout the record.

| 3.5 great | kheman1317 | September 4th 18 | Although not the debut album, this album is what marks the beginning of the bands musical journey. The songs sound mature and well-structured and has all the basic ingredients for a prog album. But what this album lacks is the much essential epicness, that every prog album requires. The album still has some decent and soothing tracks like White Mountain and Dusk. And the drumwork is amazing in the Knife.

| 4.0 excellent | ivanhowe2017 | November 28th 17 | "Trespass" is Genesis` first genuine progressive rock album. It is probably the most overlooked, misunderstood one in all the Genesis discography, since their debut outing "From Genesis To Revelation", which delved more into pop and psychedellic rock rather than into prog. This is where Peter Gabriel begins to shine as both the band`s lead vocalist and creative tour-de-force. Gabriel does not only provide a great voice, but also his ability to play the flute. Also notable is the contribution by Anthony Phillips on the guitar, John Mayhew on drums, Tony Banks in keyboards and Mike Rutherford on bass guitar.
One of its most notable songs is "The Knife". But, there are other 5 tracks that should be listened with an open mind: "Looking For Someone", "White Mountain", "Visions of Angels", "Stagnation" and "Dusk". Probably, music critics-especially those of All Music and Rolling Stone- are prone to put it down on their ratings and strat to talk nonsense, without actually listening to it.
Track-by-track rating:
1. Looking For Someone: 4/5
2. White Mountain: 4/5
3. Visions of Angels: 4/5
4. Stagnation: 4/5
5. Dusk: 4/5
6. The Knife: 4.5/5
Average rating: 4.08 stars
Key track: The Knife
Overall, Trespass is a vastly ignored and criminally underrated album by Genesis. If you are already a Genesis fan, this is something you should check out.

| 2.5 average | Robbit | May 27th 16 | TRESPASS was a transitional album that finds Genesis marrying the acoustic folk textures of their debut with the more progressive song structures they would become known for. This features original guitarist Anthony Phillips and drummer John Mayhew alongside Gabriel, Banks & Rutherford. There are some nice moments early on during "Looking For Someone" and "White Mountain", but it is "The Knife" that really stands out and hints at their direction for NURSERY CRYME. Overall, TRESPASS may seem a tad dull in contrast to the studio albums that would follow. Much of this has to do with the mellower approach and lack of explosive dynamics they'd employ more frequently on later efforts. For me, it's an average album at best as the band is still very much a work in progress at this point in time.
