I was never a fan of Katy Perry, like anyone in the world has sung along with the radio a Roar or Firework in the traffic jam, but I always found her work disposable, I never stopped to listen to an entire album, all the material seemed like a collection of songs for play on the radio, but Smile is different.
Although she still bet on this "formula" pop, this album tells a story, listening to the sequence of the first 3 songs you already realize that she went through something traumatic and is trying to compose herself
Smile marks Katy Perry's journey to rediscover her smile, mixing elements of "old katy perry" with the best of current music, the album even manages to illuminate you in this very dark moment, wipe your tears and keep dancing.
Obviously it is not a perfect album, the song Smile is one of the worst songs I heard this year, but it makes up for the great video that seems made by pixar and my daughter keeps watching.
Best songs: "Resilient" aka Firework2.0 and "Teary Eyes"
Worst songs: "Smile"

Katy just served one of her most personal works, telling a story of resilience, overcoming and a
fight to depression. With this album, she remember us one of the most importante purpose of the
music: bring the real essence of the listener during many experiences in their lives.
Favorite songs: Cry About It Later, Teary Eyes, Never Really Over and Tucked.
Worst songs: None.

Even when its lyrics made a turn for the bland, Smile nonetheless feels like the liveliest, freshest album we?ve received from Perry in her long career

I probably won't hear it again, but I liked Not The end of the World, ironic to release a song of hope like that in a year that looks like the world is already over.

i mean whole album kinda just sounds like her trying to recreate firework, while i never really cared for katy perry, i gotta say the best song here was "Firework" and the worst was "firework". also am I the only one who finds her vocals too dreary?

Originally I thought it would be awful, but it has a few redeeming tracks. Opener “Never Really Over” does bop,
though over a synthetic riff. “Daisies” is similar to the charming “Firework”. “Harleys In Hawaii” is quirky, and the
closer “What Makes A Woman” shows her softer side nicely. Overall, though, there is just not enough to generate

I want to like this as much as everyone else here apparently does, but it just doesn't do it for me. Perry has shown signs of maturity and higher quality songwriting, sure, but the album is too consistently uninteresting to keep you hooked. A couple compelling highlights and some newfound maturity isn't enough to keep this from feeling painfully average.
