apocalyptic crust punk. how can it get better than this?

Now that "crust punk" seems to refer to Discharge clones, it's hard to see how Amebix fit into the picture. Part slow, ponderous heavy metal, part post-punk. Political, but tribal and medieval in atmosphere--hits the same buttons in the pleasure center as a B movie. Really nothing else like it.

Incredible! Despite it's "just" a crust punk release, this feels so progressive and complex...! Songs like "Largactyl", "Soils of Victory" or the title track... are all amazing. Heavy but playful riffs, groovy bass lines (+ that bass tone is really something!), simplistic punk drumming and finally: vocals which could really scratch and energize like battle roars - but not flawlessly consistent... like why ruin the first half of "The Darkest Hour" with those bad cleans? Anyway, still an amazing record.
