Once again, I appreciate the will to come up with something d i f f e r e n t, and once again it's not exactly my cuppa. I'd however say this is the Charli record I enjoyed the most. I still have some gripes with this (ie her delivery is monotonous and apathetic and doesn't always match the music expansiveness) but yeah I had a good time. Still respect her art more than I actually like it. Edit: some of this bangs hard.

Considering this was made in a short space of time during lockdown, Charli has made an impressive album. It?s not as consistent or as good as Pop 2 or Charli, but it?s still full of bangers like anthems and c 2.0, which explain well the desire for parties to return at that time. enemy and part 4 u were great quieter moments which delve deep into Charli?s relationship and claws and I finally understand were also great singles. Pretty catchy and intriguing pop lyrics which show why she is one of the most interesting characters in pop and great production from the wild hyperpop sound to the more chilled electro pop. Another great album from one of the leaders of the hyperpop sound. Score: 8/10

interesting production with great and catchy vocal hooks. at the moment this album seems rather front loaded for me, and nothing comes quite close to reaching the heights that 'claws' does.

I am very torn on this. This is both exactly what I expected and equal times not at all. Thematically, the album is said to revolve around - well - how Charli is feeling now in the quarantine. But lyrically that theme comes in and out of play. I suppose it makes sense that one doesn't necessarily only think about quarantine during quarantine, but some cuts seem cut from a record that has nothing at all to do with this. Then there is the whole thing with the electronic experiments Charli likes to employ: they either work or they don't. Some songs are innovative and wild, some are questionable, some are obnoxious because of the stylistic dissonance, some are obnoxious because they are just boring pop songs. It's a mixed bag to say the least. I like experiments in pop and I especially welcome daring innovative attempts in mainstream pop music, but Charli's past experimental (and I am certain that her future too) work held much more appeal to me.

Charli XCX 2016-?, an absolute tear of pop essentials. Coming just over a half a year after 'Charli' this record shows you a different side of the artist and just how dynamic she is. Less polished and much more introspective than her previous release and in all cases this is a good thing. In her previous efforts it feels like Charli is some sort of futuristic pop god hidden behind the aggressive beats and mechanical production. Here you feel like you sort of get to know her without sacrificing anything musically. Much of the album is bittersweet and gives a sense of loneliness and of all of the COVID albums so far this one will always remind me of the long days, weeks and months spent mostly in 3 rooms of my apartment.

Charlie XCX has seen fit to make an album in a month (which is nothing new to her) and honestly this really came out well. From the opening track, you are given a very quick showing of what you are in for a noisy and abrasive pop album written by someone who is anxious about what is currently going on with the COVID isolation. I will say this record will not make normal pop fans happy if you are not used to noise pop, then this isn?t for you because this record has its moments of noise. My only downside is that not all the tracks hit as hard as others, and the sound style is a bit all over the place. Also, the production can be a touch to noisy at times (especially on the closing track).

AOTY doesn't do it quite justice. I think this is the only album that has taken me away from 2020, that in itself is a massive success. Front to.back, a brilliant display of endurance from not only Charli but her incredibly talented crew of producers from PC music. Absolutely fantastic.
