Within the Ruins' debut full-length mainly suffers from how its tracks are structured; they are essentially the guitarists' way of showboating technical aspects as much as possible without diverse songwriting. However, one cannot deny that Creature is a record which allows the band to distinguish themselves from other peers... somewhat.

As bland as the metal genre can get, this band really stands out with technicality first and foremost, and tasty riffs on top of that, instead of the standard chugging and grunting. One of my favorite albums.

Very little originality, but great song writing, flow, and technical skill. Add more dynamics to the vocals along with a pinch of originality to the song structure and this would be a superb album. WTR just barely missed the mark on this one...

Okay, so here we actually have a young metal band that doesn't sound like anything you may be thinking of. But if i were to compare this band to others, the closest matches would be Veil of Maya or Conducting from the Grave. i find that the vocals are a bit weak, a bit like After the Burial, where it sounds like the vocalist has a sore throat. But the music is definitely the thing to catch your attention; firstly, almost every guitar line is harmonized by the 2 axemen, and the mixing was done in such a way, that one guitar is fully panned left while the other is fully panned to the right. However, bassist is almost nonexistent, and due to the groove of the twin guitars, the drums also highlight the catchy beats they make. I do find it difficult to name songs from this album, just by listening to them though. Reason being, many sound the same; but given the small chance the band has taken with their sound, perhaps they can be forgiven.
