Fiona Apple is one of those artists that only produces an album every six to ten years, but when she releases an album it is meet with high praise. There is good reason for that since what she can produce in her melodies, instrumentals, poetic lyrics, and overall mood is something many artists and musicians try and most fail. All her records have this building poetic theme that comes to a large climax at the end of the record. Fetch The Bolt Cutters is no different and she does it with more style and flair then every before. In many ways this is a life story of how Fiona came to be who she is today, but it?s done with so much wit and humor that it would put to shame some of the best poets to ever write. All these tracks have these off-kilter jazz instrumentals that work so fluently with her vocals that it comes through light butter. Plus, everything about this album is so damn unique, nothing out there has ever sounded this lush yet so off (Julia Holter is a close example). Please for the love of god you have to try this record if you love some revolutionary pop music.

Maybe after a couple of listens, it'll grow with me, but for now; Fiona Apple has made one of the most ear-grabbing and brutally honest singer-songwriter albums of the last 5 years.

Not much more needs to be said or can be said about this album. The instant classic that lived up to the massive hype and then some. The percussion work is raw and genius. Some songs are centered around the fabulous piano work found here like 'Shameika' and 'I Want You to Love Me' and others are mostly just driven by the percussion and vocals with a smooth bass to provide a backdrop. Fiona's voice is ferocious whether it is the high falsettos or the lower end of her range, it is the common factor that keeps the album alive for the full 51 minutes. One could listen to the album for the percussion and instrumentation and then another time for the vocals and you would get two equally amazing experiences. Add in the highly creative, blunt, personal and some times humorous lyrics and you have yourself one of the best albums of the year. A gift that keeps on giving with tons of little subtleties to notice in the percussion, piano licks and vocals on repeated listens.

So brutally furious and instrumentally percussive to be abrasive on first listen (and several listens after), "Fetch the Bolt Cutters" is a confronting, difficult but undeniably excellent album.

At what is perhaps one of the more confusing listening experiences for me this year, Fiona Apple's album is certainly impressive. It is confusing for me, because I cannot seem to shake the duality of this album's effects: I am sometimes impressed by the odd off beat songwriting and sharp lyrical content, but then I also often get deeply annoyed by the very same songs that get me vibin' on prior listen. Versatility is this album's core. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I enjoy it; by and large it is a cleverly constructed piece of poignant and entertaining intimate wildness. But in certain moods, this can be irksome. Strange, but that's just where I'm at. "It's not you, it's me" kind of situation.

'tis a grower fosho. It's quite intimate, as her delivery made me think more of prose than poetry. I'm usually not that into her work, but the melodies stick, and the playful instrumentation were sure nice, although not as experimental as peepz be sayin'.
