It has taken me a bit to get to these two records since at first, I thought they were boring. But, now after further investigation, I have truly come to love these records. But, let's start with the worse of the two ?Together?. This record is a really strong showing of what Trent Reznor can do with sound and texture. On this record, he gives you a light and airy (yet oddly off-putting) ambient drone record. This is the light before the storm. Every song slowly builds into these loud and cacophonous drone pieces that give you so much joy and ear candy. My negative is one specific song he uses these excruciating high pitches (like the ones your psychology teacher gives you to test your hearing) and man it hurts my ears. Otherwise, this is a perfectly great record.

A positive counter-album to Locusts, NIN create a bleakly minimal record that tries sounding positive and beautiful, but occasionally ends up just tiresome.

Light ambient. This is eerie and beautiful, yet always on the verge of falling into infinite doom. The balance between how somber this sounds and how hopeful this feels is top notch: you might be alone right now, but you are alive. The sound design displayed here is great, it makes the 70 minutes pass by (almost!) quite easily, although I lost focus from time to time. The conclusion is however perfect: the moment the beat comes in during Still Here, after more than an hour of beatless music is mindblowing.

First time I've ever been fully engrossed in a TR & AR Ambient album. Some tracks feel a bit too long winded, but it's all so mesmerizing that you forget how long they are.
