The more eerie and disturbing of the two Old Man Gloom 2020 projects, on which the accompanying's album abrasive nastiness is also complimented with great song-writing. It's like if Seminar IX was a sample album, showing you a little bit of what is to be expected, while Seminar VIII plunges deep into the heavy, the ugly and - for lack of a better word and the sake of pun-ery - the gloomy. (Heck, even the drone sections are quality here)

A rare case of ambient/experimental sections done so good. Tracks are very different - music, production, lyrics. Aaron's songs are pure sludge metal. The Mosquito Control vibe. The band is great. "Calling You Home" is epic.

The balance between the noisy parts and the pounding sludge ones is exquisite on this one. While the riffing parts are on par with Seminar IX, the noise passages do not drag like I felt they did on IX. So yeah I prefer this one by a slight margin: it doesn't have "Death Rhymes", but each track here is awesome (except for "Wrath of the Weary", which is kewl but not awsm), especially the last three. Plus they kinda sound Botch-y on some tracks so ofc it's amazing.
