They somehow keep improving upon a genre that on paper, is about as limited as you can get.
They've taken this idea of pirate metal, and really opened it up with innovation and
experimentation. Tortuga has some nearly full blown rap sections that don't feel shoved in or
forced, and actually make the whole song feel even more epic than it was before, with the horns
and big breakdown. They introduced female vocals on Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship, something that's a
welcome change of pace in the middle third of the album. The solos are long and epic, and I think
most importantly, it's just fun to listen to. They don't take themselves seriously at all, and
they're fully aware that this music is as goofy as metal can get unless you're Okilly Dokilly. I
don't think it's quite album of the year material, but it's one that will definitely be in
rotation for me for a long time to come, and that alone is worth a 4.5.
Also, as a post-review edit, I listened to the extra "16th century" versions, and leave it to them
to do something as insane as that. I'll leave it as a surprise for you guys.

classics tunes like TREASURE CHEST PARTY QUEST, SHIT BOAT, and PIRATE METAL DRINKING CREW. what's this, some ACTUAL METAL on WOODEN LEG PART 2 (THE WOODENING?) if you don't like this your face is a BAG OF DICKS!! and I'M GOING TO TAKE A SHIT ON YOUR FUCKING MOTHER!!!!

The way they still manage to create such insane songs is ridiculous. Best songs : Wooden Leg Part II (arguably my favorite song), Pirate Scorn, Shit Boat (No Fans), Treasure Chest Party Quest.

I guess this is one of those cases where you just get or don't get it. Even though I don't get it, I can't deny that there are some cool melodies here and there, as well as some catchy and memorable moments.
