?Gaslighter,? a fun and uptempo country-pop tune, definitely does not set the tone for the rest of the album. The ralbum Gaslighter is creative, with many mid tempo songs and ballads. Lyrics skillfully address a variety of topics, rand the musicianship and singing are again top notch. It may actually be TOO ballad heavy, and ?Tights On My rBoat? fell flat, but those are minor gripes. A very successful return.

it's Jack Antonoff or however you spell his name that ruins this for me. perfectly fine songs with perfectly fine vocals (the lyrics are a bit cringey) but his terrible shiny plastic sound just bores my tits off

First of all, I don't know jackshit about The Dixie Chicks, and I'm clearly not the biggest country fan. This is pleasant country pop stuff tho, although I got more enjoyment from the lyrics than from the music - and that's a problem. Still, it's consistent from front to back and some songs almost approach the banger material. Almost.

part of me feels weirded out about the name change bc i feel like it makes very little difference, but i'd absolutely be lying through my teeth if i said this album didn't have so many killer moments. def worth a listen whether you're a hardcore fan or a casual listener (like me). 6.7/10
