4.0 excellent | ajcollins15 | May 4th 20 | The legendary 4 piece indie rock definers, Car Seat Headrest are back with their 12 (ish) record and it?s a somewhat drastic change from what they are previously known for. From their inception in 2010 to their groundbreaking record Twin Fantasy, they have changed what indie rock meant. Now we see them slowly changing their sound for a more synthpop and indietronica direction and I am all for it. They are taking many inspirations from The Strokes and others like them, but they are bringing a much-needed breath of air to the indietronica genre. I will say the sound isn?t fully fleshed out and the record is a bit too high quality for what I like to hear from them, but still a solid release.

2.0 poor | ItsTheSquirrel | May 2nd 20 | The songwriting is consistently pretty good (expect for Hollywood, fuck that song) but the execution is just terrible on almost every single track. Like who the fuck wanted to hear electronic remix of a CSH song?

4.0 excellent | chilledpunkrock | May 2nd 20 | This is WAAAAAAAY better than I thought it would be. Hollywood is definitely the worst song they've ever written, but most of what's on here is pretty great.

2.0 poor | RichRamp | May 1st 20 | Has some good songs, mostly awful. In the end it is a poor album and not worth visiting again

4.0 excellent | TurboOutrun | April 29th 20 | Overall, it's a pretty good album. However, I was very surprised when Will dropped a 2004 Dan Boeckner Wolf Parade demo he found on Soundcloud onto the album as "Life Worth Missing". I'm not sure if that's legal.

2.0 poor | olisz | February 23rd 24 | I appreciate the risk taken by the change of sound, but Will missed it on this one for me.

3.5 great | Stephen Prager | February 11th 21 | I'm convinced that if they cut out "Hollywood" nobody would hate this.

2.0 poor | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | December 7th 20 | It's safe to say that my first outing to a Car Seat Headrest album was less than satisfying. What an inexorably obnoxious, incoherent record, where consistency is barely in sight. Some ugly drivel of indie pop, bare-bones electronica and ridiculous vocals that don't seem like they come from a place of authenticity. Album's brightspots were only moments when either of the bazillion stylistic mishaps takes over completely and leads the way. Like on "Deadlines (Thoughtful)" that goes electro-ballistic half-way through. But moments like that are rare, mostly it's just ugly, ugly, ugly mess.

3.5 great | grandfather | May 1st 20 | Lots of great moments held back by some truly abysmal songwriting decisions. Better than I thought it'd be, but I had very low expectations after the singles.

3.5 great | gryndstone | May 1st 20 | project is a lot to take in but as a whole (i.e. the 2 versions of every song) it's good. Not as good as his most recent outings but good nonetheless.
