It's that local cover band everyone loved that decided to write something original. I can almost hear the arguments in the garage during the songwriting process.

even better than Morbus Chron, this one was boring at first but then became a huge grower. Changes of tempo are phenomenal, drums sound awesome. The first melody of the album, the acoustic guitar one, has become a huge earworm

It's not death metal, it's not conventional, but it also seems to be missing a lot of substance as well. I tried to get into many of the songs here but there's a sheer lack of oomph charging most of these songs which, aside from the obviously unique musical ideas at work here, lets the album down quite a bit. Maybe I am missing a trick, but it certainly doesn't feel like it for now.

Technical and intuitive. Lacking in purpose, though not necessarily to its detriment--talented players deserve to show off now and then. It would benefit from a shorter runtime is all; "Solemn Retreat" and "Visceral Blight" could probably go and not be missed.
