4.0 excellent | Erwann S. STAFF | April 10th 20 | Julian seems to actually care this time! Couple that with some of the most interesting material the band has done in a decade, and you've got a noice record. The synths add another way to convey melancholy and is a welcome addition to their well-known indie rock/post-punk revival (really?). Most importantly, I wasnt' bored at all. I even enjoyed the ride. Definitely wasn't expecting that. Edit: yeah this is awesome

4.0 excellent | Chino smoking it up! | April 15th 20 | I say this release is very intelligent.. Eternal Summer is very daft punkish. The album takes somewhat of a surprising and welcome turn, from Eternal Summer onwards, providing variety and showing songwriting abilities. Opener, Selfless, Bad Decisions, Eternal Summer, At the Door, Not the Same, Ode to the Mets are all tracks that stick. It's cool that some songs reminds us of some others famous ones. Band seems back in the game and I feel this as much has the debut.r

5.0 classic | IsildursBane44 | April 10th 20 | The Strokes come back a new and refreshed band. The inclusion of synths was a knockout choice. Juilan's experimentation with his other projects like the latest Voidz album really show how he was able to make those sounds more concise in this record. Also, this might have his best singing performances he's ever laid down. I never really thought of him as a great vocalist, but he doesn't hide behind the effects as much here and belts it out on some of these tracks. I love the little studio conversations too. Makes you feel like it's a live recording. This is great. The most interesting thing they've done since the gold debut.

4.5 superb | PrincyAli | July 17th 21 | Aftet a 7-year hiatus, The Strokes return to form when it comes to quality. 4.7/5 Favs: The Adults Are Talking, Selfless, Brooklyn Bridge To Chorus, Bad Decisions, At The Door, Why Are Sundays So Depressing, Not The Same Anymore, Ode To The Mets

4.5 superb | olisz | July 15th 21 | Amazing record. This is easily among my favourites of the band, if not The favourite. The
production sounds incredibly clean, and despite being known for their garage rock, the boys
actually make it work. I can't say a single bad thing about The New Abnormal, its just a great
experience.
Fun fact: In my opinion the closer 'Ode to the Mets' sound suspiciously alot like 'The Frontier
Index' by the Silver Jews.

4.0 excellent | Conmaniac | January 17th 21 | I remember the slight nervousness I had when The New
Abnormal was released and despite my love for Is
This It? the idea of a quality Strokes album in 2020
seemed as far-fetched as the coronavirus
conspiracies going on at the time. However, it
didn't take long for some respected musicians to
come out of the woodworks and admit on socials that
this album actually might be onto something despite
the lackluster, industry-gripped releases from the
band post-2010. They were right. Not only did The
Strokes create a succinct, cleanly produced and
eloquently written album, but they also stormed back
into the (virtual) "mainstream rock" scene and
before you could blink your eyes 'Bad Decisions' was
on your local (yet nationally standardized)
alternative and rock radio stations. Yet for most of
us unconcerned with radio charts, what truly
mattered were the deeper cuts and it's hard to argue
against any single track's songwriting quality and
Julien's composed yet still theatrical vocals.
Personally, the psychedelic-kissed 'Endless Summer'
fulfills a sonic gap I didn't know existed within
The Strokes discography while the opener 'The Adults
Are Talking' eclipsed everything they were going for
in sound as a group in the 2010s. So yes, The
Strokes are the new abnormal for the 2020s.

4.5 superb | charlopiano | July 2nd 20 | When I discovered this album, I had heard of The Strokes before, notably because of Reptilia, which is one of my favourite alternative songs ever. During the time where I explained a lot why I liked more vocal and musical albums of pop rock bands, The Strokes release this album, which seems like a typical Strokes album, until it gets to At The Door and Ode To The Mets, and when I listened to these songs (I was gardening), I just stopped, sat down and just listened without doing anything else, in awe of the absolute beauty of these 2 songs.

4.0 excellent | Gene Gol CONTRIBUTOR | May 31st 20 | More than anything else, The Strokes sound influenced by The Voidz, Julian Casablancas' side-project. It is a strange point of influence, but also oddly functioning. What did them well was the hiatus and the side-projects to use up all the unnecessary experimental urges that so often plagued the last few Strokes releases. They took their time, they crafted a great sound and wrote their strongest material in years.

4.0 excellent | Painless | April 23rd 20 | This album is incredibly consistent and Julian has really never sounded better. Lack of guitar variation is a bummer though.
Bump |
3.0 good | StrizzMatik | April 17th 20 | TNA really does remind me of some of the more experimental touches of First Impressions Of Earth, just stretched out to an album format. Produces similar results, both good and bad - I think Angles was a better representation of them doing new things while also retaining the characteristics that made them awesome, like the wicked guitar interplay that is really lacking on this one. It's certainly not a bad record, but it just kind of exists though... it's really missing that Strokes energy and feels more suited to a Julian project. I like the risks they are taking with their sound and it is better executed than in the past, but still doesn't strike the proper balance imo.

4.5 superb | ajcollins15 | April 13th 20 | So the Strokes are back, and it might be the best album they have ever written. The five-piece band lead by Julian Casablancas has been around since the start of the 2000s and they have always left a bad taste in my mouth. What people always saw as innovation in indie rock, I saw as really annoying. However, on their most recent release they brought in legendary producer Rick Rubin and he helps them produce the greatest and freshest work. From start to finish this is a groovy indie rock record with so many great textures, synth chords, and progressions that I keep listening and thinking this can?t be the same band. Like this would be perfect if it wasn?t how overly loud everything can be at points. Seriously, this thing is wildly amazing.

3.0 good | Jom3 | April 10th 20 | coming in right at 45 minutes, this is really the strokes doing what they do best. concise, groovy, well written tunes. Julian
is really on point in just about every track. one of the pitfalls of their recent works is the tendency for the vocals and
melodies to drag on and put you to sleep. though the tracks here are extremely catchy throughout and showcase a great
blend of unique guitar and synth work that keep you engaged from start to finish. a very surprising follow up to their worst
album. easily a 3.8/5.
