4.5 superb | audiosmurf | April 16th 20 | They managed to progress further noticably drifting into the psychedelia of Gold and Silver Sessions.
After the already fantastic single, Embers, the full LP blew me away entirely because it incorporated everything that is great about Gold and Silver Sessions into the already insane Psychedelic Doom Elder flavour.
They somehow managed to bring a bit of everything "Elder" on here while still sounding like a single piece. Theres groove and theres dreamy but also these typical disonant wailing moments that turn into perfect harmonies.
One of their best certainly.
Shut up and take my money!

4.0 excellent | Deadwing2112 | June 17th 20 | Expanding upon the original niche genre associated with a band on the rise is always a tricky proposition. The risk of alienating the already established fan base can be a weary potential consequence. The Gold and Silver Sessions EP clearly established a breakout pattern in musical styling for Elder. Omens is the full length studio release a year after G & S, cementing the band's legacy of succeeding in a genre cross over. The stoner doom vibe is dialed down considerably in favor of progressive rock meanderings with even alternative rock lyrical tendencies surfacing. The tracks are extended with lengthy instrumental passages primarily designed to elevate the tension for a rewarding rock out conclusion. The center jewel is Haylcon, with its easy on the ears tonality of guitar riffs harmonized with the synths faithfully kept in sequence by the driving drum kit in the background, fondly recalling the best of Secret Machines. Omens is the result of a band daring and succeeding at opening up its playbook.

3.0 good | Ojinaku | May 23rd 20 | This is good music, no question. What I do question is whether I?ll listen to this album again. What is this, Emery? I come to Elder for a specific vibe and this just isn?t it...at all. That said, inventive and progressive, but ultimately the poorly executed emo vocals prevent me from repeated listening.

4.0 excellent | ZucchiniSurprise | April 29th 20 | After a few listens, I can definitely say I'm not as grabbed by this as I have been by their previous work. That being said, this feels like a natural shift and progression in their music and even though it's lacking some of the heaviness they're so good at I almost feel like it would have been forced with this batch of songs. I feel like they made the right decision to let the crunch take a back seat for this record, but I'd be lying if I said I don't miss some of the heavier riffs. Great prog though.

4.0 excellent | Chino smoking it up! | April 27th 20 | Bold but hard 4 cause I dig the band a lot. As said they always change their sound in each release. This time they leave you with somewhat of a disconcerting punk rock vibe, much of this caused by the "bad" vocals much more at front, where tuning is not a strength.

3.7 great | Erwann S. STAFF | April 24th 20 | Proggier than ever, Elder subtly lets go of their stoner background to fully go into the psych/prog path. If musically it's as engaging as ever, Nick's vocals might be the worstrhe's done, maybe because they're too audible? Shame, 'cause once again they are masters at delivering hazy cosmic instrumentals.

4.0 excellent | eirinn | April 24th 20 | Not as brilliant as their last two LPs, but still a heck of an album. It takes the path started with Gold and Silver, strips down a bit on the jam concept and delivers a more focused outcome.

4.5 superb | Drpibb | April 24th 20 | What a journey this record takes you on. Sonic landscape jams which are so damn epic. Vox are
just ok but the songwriting and musicianship elevate them 100%.
