Honestly the incessant whining about people not liking him is what makes this so painfully average. IF he just shut the fuck up and made relevant music it would be better, but he has to keep whining about how people don't like him anymore. Bro, you're 47 years old, not 27 anymore. He still has great skills and a good sense for songwriting but honestly the filler and the incessant bitching and moaning killed this for me.

edit: Good tracks actually better than I thought. Some of the beats are kinda fur. actually evolve
through the song. but honestly, he's gotta drop both trying to be technical and talking about life in
the cyber spotlight/lusting after public approval. shit is lame. just talk about truth or some shit lol.
thats what ur supposed to do at the top. like he only knew how to be at the bottom. makes sense.
but he should get it pretty soon.

Eminem comes as always with great flow and technical ability. But this album is way too random,
unfocused and just plain bizarre. Is Marshall possibly on drugs again?

Eminem's career certainly has been quite the rollercoaster, going from being hiphop's darling with The Marshall Mathers LP to being it's favorite punching bag with 2017's Revival. One could feel kind of bad for the man, especially as someone who actually at one point used to be a hardcore fan of him during his earliest teen years and kind of looked at him as a bit of a father figure not having one myself anymore. Unfortunately, the relentlessly bitter, old-man-yells-at-cloud kind of narrative that I felt like his music was really starting to get overshadowed by (on top of the general lack of good taste of a lot of his post-The Eminem Show material) was very hard to want to defend. It just felt like Eminem was too stuck in his ways and too stubborn to grow as an artist and as a person, picking fights with a majority of the newer generation of hiphop instead of adapting and being willing to be open towards the new sonic ideas that drives today's youth. Luckily, in 2020, it seems like Eminem has cooled his temper and regained a little bit of focus again, and it has resulted in a record that is certainly a lot better than Revival. Better beat selection, less dated songwriting choices and focus on venting frustrations about public opinions on his musical output considered, it seems like this record is opening the door for a new possible redemption arc for Eminem. On the flipside, a lot of my gripes like bad hooks, questionable lines, uninteresting pop features, grating staccato flows and a bloated tracklist are here to a very notable degree as well.

Good beats, energy/atmosphere and Eminem's technical skills are still right up there with anyone else but it just feels like he has been out of ideas for a while and skating by on his rap abilities alone. Honestly he makes some good points about gun violence in 'Darkness' and where are we that Eminem has to do this in 2020 considering the topics of his best work 20 years go, wild. On other songs he misses the mark (Stepdad, Farewell) whether its the lyrical content or the singing in the hooks. If anything, we have learned by now, well like 10 years ago that Eminem is angry, the whole entire schtick and persona is just old now. The edgy stuff just doesn't work anymore and isn't funny most of the time. Never truly horrible and there are plenty of good moments here but it is not hard to empathize with people dragging this through the mud.

I keep it no secret that I?m an Eminem apologist, but this album gave me nothing to work with. At least I still return to the last 3 songs on Revival. There?s nothing on here to return to. It?s Kamikaze without the brevity and Revival with even more bitterness.
