2.5 average | Nine | March 6th 20 | This record starts off really strong, and that's one of its strongest suits, but something about the middle and latter half of the record loses steam. The interludes especially started to get a tad monotonous spliced in between the tracks, yeah. I'll give it some more time, but "4 American Dollars", "Overtime", and the closing track are really good tunes from the bunch on this record.

3.0 good | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | December 24th 20 | 'Heavy Light' has some of U.S. Girls' most ambitious ideas and most expensive stylistic direction. Often I felt like I am in some Disney-Christmas-fairytale world that has turned plenty sour. However, what fails this album is its song-writing. It is often too complicated for its own good, but then other times it's quite non-descript. The interludes certainly do not help to pat the pacing, as they mostly just sit there only vaguely tying with the rest of the album. Above that, thankfully, 'Heavy Light' has some absolutely stunning pieces like "4 American Dollars", "Overtime" or "Born to Lose". So great direction, beautiful songs, and also a lot of dud holes and pacing issues.

3.0 good | cjbizzlebizzle | June 30th 20 | Just kind of feels incomplete and for the most part the songs follow a very similar production/style/overall mood. Where 'In a Poem Unlimited' felt free flowing and filled with experimental tracks and straight catchy bangers this feels like a much more formulaic and repetitive psychedelic pop record. '4 American Dollars' is a great track but not quite a SOTY candidate and that is another issue here, it doesn't really carry the signature tracks that you will keep on a playlist for years to come. The spoken words feel like filler in an album that is short and lacks content but overall there really isn't a bad song on here, just nothing over the top excellent. Starts off strong in the first three tracks and peaks again with 'And Yet It Moves / Y se mueve' but the rest isn't quite enough to keep the whole runtime all that memorable.

4.0 excellent | anat CONTRIBUTOR | March 6th 20 | The spoken word interludes are absolute ass but the tunes around them are solid enough for it to not matter
