The good news is, The Word Alive's "MONOMANIA" is a step-up from their last album "Violent Noise". The bad news is, it's not much better. What we have here is a "Dave & Busters" album. To summarize: Every experience I've ver had at a Dave & Busters has been 'fine'. "How's the food?" It's fine. "How are the games?" They're fine. "How was the pricing?" It's fine. "How was the experience?" It was fine. That's how I feel about MONOMANIA as a whole. The songwriting, the production, the instrumentation; all of it is fine. If The Word Alive is satisfied with coasting on mediocrity, then they should keep doing what they're doing. Recommended tracks: "MONOMANIA", "ANOTHER YEAR IN THE SHADOWS", "K.F.", "NUMB LOVE (MISERY II)".

ANOTHER YEAR IN THE SHADOWSrThese track titles are hilarious back to back, like maybe you wouldn't be searching for glory and being in the shadows if you didn't alienate older fans that liked the metalcore side of the band. It's pretty obvious that the band lost a lot of their audience since Dark Matter dropped, but Telle is adamant about people enjoying the new sound better even tho 90% of people do not

This is 100% a clout chasing record. The entire record sounds like a band that's been on the rdecline copping the RnB, post-hardcore fusion sound that bands like Dayseeker, Slaves, Too Close rto Touch and Palisades have done much better before. With Erik Ron as the producer here, that's rnot surprising at all.rWith that said, I'm a sucker for this kind of shit. And aside from some geniunely cringey lyrics rand same-y songs, there are some solid songwriting moments here. It's alright, but once other rbands continue to follow suit, my score will likely go down.

nothing here is particularly 'bad' per se, but absolutely nothing stood out to me in a big way across the entire record. neutered alt-rock production, basic song structures and note progressions. Telle is the only element here that really excels imo, but even then it gets a bit tiring hearing the same kind of crooning verse/chorus in every song with little to no reprieve. I loved Dark Matter so much man, it's such a shame to see where they've ended up now. I guess the closer was my favourite, had the most going for it out of all the tracks.
