Edit: I have underestimated this album. Painfully, I admit I did not give it enough time
initially. Wonderful album and among their best.

Shedding all pretenses of being a metalcore band, Heaven Shall Burn have re-energized and diversified their sound to deliver a sprawling epic that stands as one of the best contemporary melodic death metal albums.

Heaven Shall Burn have always felt like they were capable of so much more than they actually did, and Of Truth and Sacrifice goes further towards realizing that potential. The riffs and aggression are top notch, the melodic parts are really well-crafted, and the throat shredding vocals are excellent. The thing that keeps this double album moving is the little bit of diversity it features. One day these guys might actually surprise, but with the level of conviction and the excellent songs they continue to churn out, this is still pretty damn good.

I love a good saga whether it's metal, opera, or rock as long as it's done well. I'd never heard of this band before when I spun this one up and didn't even know it was a double album. Make sure you play it in its original order to get the full impact. Plenty of brutal tracks like "Eradicate", "Protector" and "Critical Mass" with songs punctuated in between to make you think about what this album is about. Love the cinematic scope of "Weakness Leaving My Heart" as a terrific conclusion. I liked this album far better than the also highly regarded "Antigone."

It's okay. Not a big fan of this genre anymore, so while I find it cool, I don't dig melodeathcore as much as before. There are some sweet galloping riffs here and there but overall it's a tad too long for my taste. Still, for what it is it's a primary example of what the genre is capable of. Expatriate especially slayz.

First half I found to be quite boring and typical of HSB. Second half however is a nice breath of fresh air. Nothing groundbreaking but great regardless.

...they are the best at doing a formulaic stiff genre (don't know why though, cause its such a resourceful genre), even more straight than straight thrash can be...uff...the gal is maybe hot, not my type of gal...and if that was not enough on me...its a double damn disc...veeeery tiring. This is about war, and I'm at war getting to the end of it. Apparently they are tired too, so decided to play some Ramstein instead and to vary a bit on wirting on disc 2.

This starts off kinda weak but then gets into some pretty sweet riffs with 'My Heart and the Ocean' being one of the stand out tracks for me. Then it does kinda drag on for way too long. Whoever thought this band needed a double albums was sadly mistaken.

Who gave this band permission to riff that hard? Marcus' vocals are also absolutely monstrous on this release. This entire album pounds you into the ground.

I was skeptical of this given how weak Heaven Shall Burn's last album was as well as this being a double album, but this was a really solid release. The second disc in particular is fantastic.

Great surprise! First part is typical Heaven Shall Burn and can be homogenic at times but on the second part, the band play with their style and we find more experimentations.
