4.0 excellent | Deadwing2112 | February 17th 20 | Quite possibly the comeback album of the year from a long dormant band. And certainly a successful transition toward a heavier rift metal musical template compared to earlier eclectic progressive rock tendencies. The vocals are solid yet blended a bit too far back into the mix unlike earlier albums where presented upfront. Hopefully this new label deal will include reissuing the back catalog, a long overdue and much necessary endeavor.

5.0 classic | cloakanddagger | February 13th 20 | A fantastic release that continues Psychotic Waltz's natural progression into darker territory. Also Buddy's vocals are just as good now as they were over 2 decades ago, one of the most underrated metal vocalists out there right now.

2.5 average | Chino smoking it up! | February 18th 20 | I like everything...yet nothing on here...except the badass flute on Pull the String...but I'm sure its a musical joke on here X) good production, well executed, well sang (even though a bit cheesy) and even well written, but the pact they seem to made to do not riff fast hurts my butt...cause it ain't even doom...it's a slow paced hard rock and its not for me. This is the living proof psychotic differs from psychedelic, as the tags firstly suggested...

2.6 average | Erwann S. STAFF | February 17th 20 | Dark atmospheric prog metalz with some doomy riffs and that kind of clean prog vocal performance you either love or hate. It's not a bad album, but I've personally hit the point where overproduced modern prog metal just don't do it anymore. There are tasty solis, nice groovy parts here and there but overall the melodies did not engage me that much. The pan flute solis were cool though. If you're into prog metal, then ofc go for it with an open mind and you'll most likely enjoy this. For me though, this is mixed feelings embodied.

4.0 excellent | Trey STAFF | January 13th 23 | Nostalgia may cause people to forget that Psychotic Waltz had been moving towards a darker, more atmospheric, sound ever since their second release. I say this because it would be a shame for them to come into The God-Shaped Void expecting something it is not. The God-Shaped Void is not a rehash of A Social Grace or even Mosquito ? it's not even a rehash of Bleeding (despite sharing some similarities). What it is, though, is a natural progression of the Psychotic Waltz sound; the same progression they were making before taking an extended break. It's a near-flawless album that puts the feel and ?song' ahead of progressive showmanship while still showcasing each member's immense talent. Also, unlike some other comeback releases we've seen, Psychotic Waltz isn't returning to a genre saturated with sound-alikes; they're returning to a sound some have tried to emulate, but none have managed to reproduce.

3.8 excellent | Voivod STAFF | March 29th 20 | When Psychotic Waltz announced the release of a new album around 2014, few believed the San Diego bunch would actually deliver, let alone make an album that could stand next to their triumphs of old. With The God-Shaped Void, Psychotic Waltz dwarfed mountains, them being: the rust that comes with a 20-plus-year hiatus; the ultra-slow production of new music that comes with age, in the interim of real life duties and Devon Graves having moved to Europe since the beginning of the Deadsoul Tribe era; last but not least, the guarantee that the growing effect of new music, would gradually appease the reservations of longtime fans, and introduce Psychotic Waltz to an audience itching in its parents' pants in the '90s. The God-Shaped Void is essential progressive metal; it builds from the entire Psychotic Waltz/Deadsoul Tribe body of work, sounding different from its sources and bearing no trivial shortcuts to quality whatsoever. 3.5 great | Mitch | February 26th 20 | Pretty solid from start to finish. However, it really isn't all too memorable, and I doubt I'll ever get the urge to listen to it again.
