1.0 awful | SandwichBubble | November 24th 19 | Beck awakes one quiet afternoon, walking outside his house in the Hills to see if there's any mail for
him. A frown gleaned across his face: no mail today. A quiet sigh escapes his lips as he walked back to
his home. When suddenly, the sound of impacted dirt.
Beck knew this sound all too well.
The sound of tranquilizer darts hitting the ground.
Hidden within the Californian bush was the barrel of an ancient-styled blow gun. There was only one
clan that still clinged to the ancient ways. He dashes towards the house, calling out to his wife.
Several dart shots could be heard firing in the distance. Beck rips the portrait of L. Ron Hubbard
from the wall of the living room, revealing a gym bag of necessities:
A toothbrush, a leopard skin pillbox hat, and 3 of his favorite Grammys.
Beck pushes the comically-big red button that was installed into his kitchen counter. A message is
sent out to his management, only two words: "release it." The record label heads do as they're told.
Beck's new album is ready for release. He hugs his wife tenderly. The husband and wife leave through
the backdoor, heading into the vast Californian wilderness. Last recorded sighting of them was just
before a bright beam of light came down from the heavens and quickly vanished.
Their whereabouts are currently unknown.

1.0 awful | Herbie Chrost | December 5th 19 | It?s like Beck watched half of a YouTube tutorial on how to make synthwave on GarageBand, saw Floral Shoppe in his recommendations feed off to the side, and thought ?I got an idea for the new album!? The music sounds shockingly cheap and amateur and nothing sounds like they?re fitting together (which is deeply ironic and sad given Beck?s back catalogue, which I?m largely impartial towards in the first place). Pharrell Williams?s contributions are counterintuitive to the faux 80?s nostalgia and Beck?s anti-folk and rapping are baffling amidst hazy synths and 808s. Muzak for people who think they?re nostalgic for the 80?s but really are just detached from reality.

3.0 good | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | June 14th 20 | I'll level with you, this wasn't that bad. Some catchy tunes, not that much tho.

2.5 average | kheman1317 | November 30th 19 | What starts out as a promising album, turns into a below average and uninspiring one just after two tracks in and continues on that same standard for its entirety.

2.5 average | Doublez38 | November 26th 19 | I would say that this new album is first of all a new adventure, like a new challenge for Beck, because musically I have a lot of difficulty to recognize it and overall it is especially a failure. With a production by Pharell, obviously musically it looks like a mix between NERD and Tame Impala, which gives an alternative R&B with a slightly psycadhelic electropop. It's an interesting idea that could have given some good things, but I have the impression that Beck is not really a sheet and often it sounds like déjà vu or too smooth. For example, the Single Saw Lightning looks like Robin Thicke's Blurred Line (hey hey hey hey), but unlike last year's MGMT album or Current, it lacks that identity and especially worthwhile tracks. As much as I can put aside the identity aspect, but for that to happen the album would have to be not only a change but an innovation. It's probably his worst album ever.
