We laughed at transcendental black metal in 2011, but it looks like Liturgy are the ones having
the last laugh now. H.A.Q.Q. is an excellent record that reconciles black metal with Hunter-
Hendrix's more cerebral approach and abstract tendencies to create something very new and
exciting.

A perfect mesh of their previous ventures. Still as chaotic and all over the place as Aesthethica was, yet, it's as if they refined every element and did not throw out 2015's Ark Work experimentation, instead, they use the better elements from that album and it all coalesces into a stronger, better whole. I knew they were onto something with "God of Love," but it's a whole new ballpark whenever that's not even the strongest song on this album. Completely mind-blowing and a masterpiece in every way. It's like if Midsommar were an album

In terms of experimentation, creativity, and fusion, H.A.Q.Q. is an absolute masterpiece. In terms of being enjoyable and fun to listen to, it's often wonderful but occasionally grating. On balance, it's a wonderful piece of art, nerdiness be damned.

If one only focuses on the laughably pretentious nature of this album and the artist, one might regrettably miss the curious innovative brand of black metal (and black metal inspired styles) delivered. However ridiculous the circumstances of the album and artist persona, I will always support forward thinking and experimenting work - especially in genres that could do with a much needed innovation and change of pace.

When you're a pretentious prick and want to revolutionise one of the most revered underground genre, you'd better come up with above above-average results to not be laughed at. Triple H finally accomplishes this feature with Liturgy's new record. Even though this album is more interesting than it is beautiful, I feel he's perfected what Liturgy is about in a short 45 minutes output (instead of bloated 65 minutes bores that were the previous ones). For example, adding bells, glockenspiels and other so-not-bm instruments is a more than welcome touch, as it helps providing a unique dynamic (the same can be said about the glitches and modern classical additions). It's still pretentious music for nerds who can't even feel when they're pissing, but it's good pretentious music. Of course some parts are obnoxious, such as the "EXACO" piano totalists tracks (HHH couldn't deliver a run-of-the-mill tremolocore album) but as a whole it's much more coherent than what we've been granted with Liturgy's previous records. At least the gatekeepers won't shit on this one and won't entirely disagree with the pedantic journalists praising it as a masterpiece revolutionizing the genre. They won't be as hyperbolic, but at the very least Liturgy will not be mocked this time.

Love him or hate him, Hunter is a prodigy in the world of ?experimental black metal?. This album is completely over bearing. Intense, unrelenting chaos melded with beautifully triumphant undertones creates a gorgeous cacophony of sounds that is unique to Liturgy.

I'll throw one of my patented Zaru 3.5 "is decent"'s on this bad boy just for the h*ck of it right now. This is way better than Ark Work, a bit better than Aesthethica, and somehow actually an enjoyable record--despite still having all of the flaws of those two aforementioned records. This is basically just a better Aesthethica and at this point that's pretty nice.

Their best album! Finally an actually modern-sounding black metal album in 2019 (come back Altar of Plagues we need you)! Just wished God of Love was the same as the single version (it basically is but I listened to that track repeatedly and the difference slightly annoy me)
