Gotta love the balls-out energy and the Led Zeppelin influences on here. Probably the most fun Rush album.

Certainly a progression. for the debut, however a very inconsistent one. By-Tpr itself is one of Rush?s best, and Anthem shows their straight rock of the debut with a huge improvement in drumming. Overall though, it falls short due to tracks like the ones from the title-track until the closer, In The End

The Neil Peart reign begins here. Immediately something has changed with Rush as evident by an ode to By-tor and Snow Dog. Although clearly not perfected, the progressive elements are introduced.

This album is another overlooked gem. While most of the radio play centers on "Fly By Night," a timeless classic, the acoustic-driven "Making Memories" laments the hardship of touring but does so with a very catchy melody. A tribute to the mythos of Tolkien is found in the touching "Rivendell," which one could argue was the trend at the time (Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On," etc.), but it is unique and memorable. Lastly, "Anthem" is another great guitar-driven track.

One of Rush's most underrated (and greatest) albums within their discography. Unlike Synth-Heavy Rush that most know and love, this album hardly strays into the field of Progressive Rock at all, choosing rather to sit comfortably within the realm of hard rock, even at times moving to much softer pieces that are nonetheless still fantastic. The first half of the albums features some kick-ass catchy hard rockin' songs, while the second half finishes up the album much more smoothly and softly, giving the album full dimensions of the rock spectrum for one of Rush's greatest listening experiences.

In the first track first impression that goes to your mind, is: Neil Peart, his influence and legacy started there, in "Anthem", a great opener for this, Progressive sound fills within your mind, Geddy's high pitch and Alex's versatility can change your opinion if You started Rush up with "Rush" (1974) or reaffirm it if Your 'first contact' was "Moving Pictures" or something like that. Altough 'Working Man' had already done, 'By-Tor And The Snow Dog' reached the goal taking You away to another scene. Nothing to say about the main theme, It's just a Classic, every person must hear it and give a particular mean to it. In the same way for "Rivendell". FBN, It's the prove of perfect combination between Powerful/Prog Melodies with an intricate Guitar/Drums work.

Still finding their feet, Rush create a somewhat aimless record. It kinda feels half like they were using material that didn't get on the first album, and half that they were pushing their new sound. However, By-Tor.

Despite possessing the awful title-track and some pretty untrained vocals from Geddy, this album is the turning point for Rush's music. The addition of drummer Neil Peart was undescribeable for the band's overall success and compositions, and the progressive undertone of the album should sit nicely with that era of Rush fans. This one takes a few spins for it to grow on you, but there are some classic Rush moments on it.
