If there's one PH album that could have been released as VdGG, that's the one. But it's more than that: while "Forsaken Gardens" and "Wilhelmina" seem a little uninspired, "Modern"'s ironic city-life commentary and "The Lie"'s stunning anti-religious rants make up for it with a surplus, and "A Louse Is Not a Home", perhaps Hammill's best, with its deep philosophical lyrics concerning the nature of identity and phenomenal vocal performance, after all these years still stays unrivalled.
