this is OKAY melodeath if you like your melodeath with heaps of american metalism and bad skremz vox instead of good melodeath raspsps like on the previous better album. There are also breakdowns now and while they don't actually harm the songwriting at all I'm still docking points for it on principal.

I did not enjoy this one bit... after 2 tracks. The stale instrumentation and mediocre vocals made the album feel repetitive almost immediately. The use of repetitive melodies and sterilized sounding riffs made nothing really stand out. Happy it lasted only 33 minutes.

Miasma straddles the line somewhere between metalcore and death metal with a focus on the former. Blistering pace throughout the entire album with a root firmly in the palm-muted open E string. Chugging riffs with a heaping serving of melodic tones throughout creating some of the tightest grooves above robotic drumming that actually sounds real. The Black Dahlia Murder obviously draw on At the Gates but turn up the burners a few notches and on Miasma deliver ten brutal tracks. Trevor Strnad is the star with some of the best deathcore vocals the business has to offer. The other obvious stellar trait here is the overall style: TBDM create a true mood of horror in their music with the melodic leads and harmonies. Statutory Ape, Novelty Crosses, I'm Charming and Miasma are fantastic.

One of the best metalcore offerings ever. It's fast, brutal and just technical enough, this is borderline death metal and good death metal at that. The vocals have a massive range and are just right to give this album a frantic pace and the drums are immense and bring it into the world of really brutal metal.

At first I just could not stand Trevor's voice but after a while it grew on me. Then I was able to listen to it all the way through and actually appreciate what they had to offer. In terms of Melo-Death, This is a brilliant album, definitely worthy of buying.
