Annihilator is as Annihilator does. Nothing new under the sun, but also nothing objectionable, except perhaps too much of the good ol sun. Annihilator anno 2020 sound like t a mix between Testament and Tourniquet, for better or worse, with the ever-magnificent Jeff Waters-drizzle on top. If only the songwriting was more memorable, Annihilator would blow most other thrash bands out of the water.

So damn uninspired, nothing special about, nothing new. It has a good drive and the songs fit together, follow a certain idea. But that's it, only the least you'd expect. Bad for Annihilator, Thrash Average all in all.

Jeff Waters has recently said that his lead guitar shredding merely consists of speeding/"thrashing" the legacy of Angus Young. While the veracity of the aforementioned statement can be debatable (boogie rock and power/thrash metal are two different genres), fewer and fewer fans can object the fact that the last few Annihilator albums follow the same norm with minimal changes, analogous to how little the Aussies shifted in their career in terms of song writing, even during their critically acclaimed era. Ballistic, Sadistic is no exception, however it blatantly borders, and eventually treads on "adult oriented thrash" territory, with the rest of Annihilator merely engaging in backing band duties... It's comforting to know that I can always look forward to listening to practically the same decent thrash album with dorky vocals every other year. Never stop doing what you do, Jeff.
