Weeb pop for distractible metalheads who thought they were over nu metal. When Grimes
plundered the kawaii-niverse to chalk up cheap points for 'innovation' with lazy U.S. critics over
Art Angels, she must have thought it was common sense to leave out the Babymetal. Nice 1-
upmanship, Poppy. Pretty inoffensive, a few cool left-turns, and an overall decent run of dumb

Is it weird that I'm more than just on board with this?

The only good thing about this record is that it brings "weeird" sounds to pop lovers and random listeners. Most of the album is bland pop with boring melodies, sometimes with bland edgy guitars, sometimes with bland low quality industrial sounds. Sometimes the transition between hard and soft or viceversa is just hilarious, sometimes it suits well. Overall not an horrible achievement, but nothing good either.

Not very good but better than it has any right to be.

Even for Poppy the move into metal was a turn of unexpected turn of events, one that she's
masterfully manipulated into a victory. She built on the rejection of expectations with a
very solid set of songs that delve heavily into nu-metal, metalcore, and industrial metal
territory, very much seizing upon the late 90's revival zeitgeist that's permeated the underground
metal scene while also infusing the music with her typical pop infectiousness and trademarked

Sounds like a natural progression from the direction she was headed on the Choke EP. She shows a clear appreciate of the nu-metal/alt-metal sound of the late 90s/early 2000s with enough fresh ideas and weird Poppy flare to ever keep it from sounding like a ripoff. This is fantastic.

Ironic music done very very very very very very very very very very very badly. Also: annoying.

Feels gimmicky at its most metal moments thanks to some lifeless performances but the more melodic songs are good and an indicator of where Poppy should move to next.

I guess this is the next logical step for her to go. Concrete is easily the best song on here, kinda dips after that. Still thoroughly enjoyable though.

I am a metalhead, but secretly love Poppy, and have from the beginning (my wife and I almost used 'Lowlife' in our wedding). I was nervous about her crossover into metal, especially with BLOODMONEY and Concrete as the first singles, but the rest of this album absolutely nails the blend of pop and metal Poppy. Excellent production, good songwriting, even better than expected album structuring - this is good.

You know what? This is great. I totally did not expect something like this from her. The producers made a wonderful job here, this kept me interested all the way through, as a metalhead. The album is like a constant and intense mood swing, which is pretty comical sometimes. Bot oh boy, when it wants to sound heavy, it is HEAVY. I also enjoyed the interesting lyrics as well - I don't know where or how long did she hide this in her... tbh, I love this Poppy.
The only problem is here the lack of consistency: next to some seriously good songs (or parts) the rest is not even closely memorable... Shame, it could have been a 4.0 as well - but songs like "Fill the Crown" (which is clearly the pinnacle here, that song is fucking heavy), "Bite Your Teeth", "I Disagree" are good enough to leave me remember about this album very positively. Also, the cover art is SICK, I love it!

Wow, actually was impressed with the album. Also, "Don't Go Outside" was very good.
