Damn, the bitch just snapped. I was not a huge fan of LP1 and I thought she was a bit overrated, but this is very worthy of the praise and then some. Wow! Fantastic! Absolutely beautiful

Twigs' songwriting and vocal performances are as intimate as ever while her production stretches into more alien territory. Frequently beautiful and occasionally gut-wrenching, Magdalene is a triumph in musical catharsis and sonic magic.

This felt a bit more cohesive than LP 1, but lacked some of the magic and experimental nature of the EPs. The move to a more palatable sound did help Twigs get across herself a bit better, as there was less minimalist tracks, but at the same time removed some of the uniqueness from her music. This record does have some great stuff especially closer ?cellophane? which is arguably her best track, but others felt like they missed a lil something to make them good tracks. This was a much more powerful record and while looking at heartbreak once again, also looked at the pressures of fame and womanhood. Still a solid record, that pushes her sound forward. 7.5/10

I love almost all of the tracks here individually (other than the painfully slow/repetitive opener, and the baffling inclusion of holy terrain), but taken as a whole the album feels slightly stuck in its very beautiful and very sad ditch. On paper, it's the more accomplished and more emotionally involving experience of FKA's two albums, but the variety and experimentation on LP1 wins out for me.

Billie Eilish in allen Ehren, doch in meinen Augen hätte es sich vor allem FKA Twigs verdient, als der Shooting-Star der Musikpresse im Jahr 2019 hervorzugehen.
Was den Sound angeht, fühlte ich mich am ehesten an Acts wie Björk, James Blake oder Son Lux erinnert, was deren elektronische Verspieltheit anbelangt. Doch so richtig lässt sich ihr Sound in keine bekannte Schublade stecken.
Stimmungstechnisch kommt das Ganze manchmal gruselig, dann wieder unglaublich melancholisch daher.
Und genauso breit ist das Spektrum in Bezug auf Tahliah Debrett Barnetts stimmliche Fertigkeiten.
Als Musikenthusiast könnte man noch viel mehr über dieses Album schwärmen, Hitradio-kompatibel ist das Ganze im Gegensatz zu Billie Eilishs Debüt jedoch selten. Doch das macht nichts. Für solch eine Art von Schönheit ist das breite Publikum dann wohl noch nicht bereit. Aber das kann ja noch werden.

In a year where Charli XCX paved the path for mainstream pop to follow it feels like her fellow Brit FKA twigs is paving the way for the weirder side of pop, more ambient and artsy kind. The beats/instrumentals here could probably exist on their own and be interesting and atmopsheric as could FKA twigs' truly stunning vocals. When they are paired together you get something that feels slightly cinematic in nature and an album that just moves along wonderfully from chapter to chapter with so many memorable moments along the way. 'Sad Day' and 'Fallen Alien' are as close as it gets to singles here providing much needed energy in between more ambient and experimental tracks. The whole journey ends with the fantastic closer 'Cellophane', a perfect ender and the best track on the record showcasing that FKA twigs can sing with the best of them and compose an album that has one of the best flows of the year.

2019 is the year that FKA Twigs and Lana Del Rey finally went off. The stretch of songs from mary magdalene to mirrored heart are three of the strongest tracks she's ever done, and then the album closes on cellophane, which absolutely blows everything else out of the water.

While we are witnessing a beautiful year 2019 for the trend that some characterize globally of Pop Art (and it is rather justified), with very good albums released by Weyes Blood, Lana Del Rey, Angel Olsen, Thom Yorke ou James Blake (to name only them), Fka Twigs has managed to do even better than them by offering a grandiose modern album with all the ingredients that others possess but also because in innovation and creativity, it has gone much further than others. Technically, even if many know her influences : Bjork etc... I tend to think more about Kate Bush, mainly for the vocal performance, but also for the intensity and emotion she delivers. It is a masterpiece, which will most probably become a classic, because of all that I have heard this year, it is "the story" or "the stories" that have touched me the most and best written/interpreted, where we share the pain of an important relationship end and then how to relive and recover from it, it is an indescribable sadness where regret, depressions and loneliness mingle. In the moment of course on the fact that musically, the production is prodigious. I kill the suspense maybe too early, but we're far enough into the year to say that Magdalene will probably be the best album of the year as well as the cover too. rPS: Very happy to see that Future is the only vocal featuring, which still shows that he is probably one of the princes of the "urban blues" (call it what you want), by advising you to go listen again to Hendrixx or Save Me

Idk... I wanted to like this album more, but it sounds a tad too aggressive to enjoy this as another R&B album staple. Tracks 2, 4, and 5 are my personal highlights for this record. Keep doing trip hop proud Ms Twigs!

As always, strong album from FKA Twigs, with few jams but consistent quality overall. I
preferred the first half, as the second half often feels a bit like a musical more than an
album - especially on 6 and 8. 7 is nice though, and the closer is a gorgeous emotional
lo-fi-ish jam that bumps the album a point a point on its own. 1 and 4 are also kinda jammy
in spite of Future's contribution, 5 is also a lovely track and 2-3 are ok. Solid. 3.95

Contrary to her previous releases, where she displayed an almost animal fierceness in love, Twigs agrees here to show her vulnerability. This sensibility was always present in her art, however much more in the form (the music per se) than in the content (what she is saying to us). While she has not totally lost her violent endeavours (sad day is full of sentences you wouldn't want to hear), Magdalene reveals itself melancholic without ever losing FKA Twigs' typical ethereal aspect. This melancholy is perhaps perfected in the second track, home with you, and the 'I didn't know you were lonely' line. Sound-wise, and with the help of an armada of super-producers (Jaar, Lopatin, Arca, and (oh boy) Skrillex among others), she finally perfects what was hinted in M3LL155X and delivers a masterful glitchy ambient R&B record. A beautiful November record to listen to when all the leaves are brown and the sky is grey.
