The Fall of Troy don't give a **** what you think.
Sure, I'm not in love with these re-recordings, but the band took a different approach on a bunch of old songs which I think is what they were supposed to do. The production is awkward, and the bass isn't loud enough most of the time. This is kind of a big deal for a trio. Thomas can't sing, but his singing is passable a fair share of the time, so you can then easily focus on the ridiculously good instrumental side of these tracks. The ambiance bits, while prolonged a bit too much in places, are a welcome addition as well, keeping the album cohesive throughout.
I like Frank's dreads.

the production on this is horrific, but other than that, this is fairly good. Fall of Troy's worst easily, but still retains the energy of Ghostship Demos.

The dropped tempo and more clean vocals detract from the pure insanity of the original demo. Ironically, all the extra production tricks and effects make the album less haunting and crazy than the original

The Fall of Troy's last studio album was kind of an odd misstep for the band. They made some big changes to their overall sound, and there was a negative reaction from those who wanted something more along the lines of their previous album, Doppelg?er. And while I can understand Thomas Erak not wanting to write the same album over and over again, Manipulator really seemed (to me) like it was a huge step in the wrong direction. That's why I was a little hesitant when I found out the band had released a completed version of the Ghostship Demos they had recorded so long ago. The first initial listen has left me quite impressed. The production is a huge step up from Manipulator, Thomas' vocals have improved quite a bit, and a lot of the pointless genre experimentation that was present on Manipulator is now gone. I'm also picking up a strong De-Loused In The Commatorium type vibe as well. If this is what we can expect from The Fall of Troy's forthcoming studio album, color me excited.

as an avid fall of troy fan ive got to say i anticipated this album to the day it came out. a few words i would use to describe this album would include: "brilliant," and almost even "jazzy"...
the fall of troy takes a 5 track cd and makes it last almost a half an hour. the more i listen to it the more i feel like i should never try to play guitar again.
thomas erak [the bands guitarist] is my idol. he tears the guitar up. although some would argue that his vocals are a lil' hard to listen to, they are getting better with each album they release.
a general rule of thumb when listening to music: any band can write a good song... but it takes a great band to record a good album.
this album is super progressive and utilize more phases in one song than most bands can in an entire album...

Before listening to this, I overhyped the **** out of this album in my head. Then listening to it led me into a listen that left me disapointed. I can say I'd rather listen to the Ghostship demos, production and all. Which brings me to something thats been bothering me ever since manipulator... why do the vocals sound like thomas erak was placed in a large cement room with the mic one foot away from his mouth. I'd say alot of the "rawness" is still there, just some newly added post-manipulator sound... and less screaming. Not a lot has changed from the Ghostship demos however, I didn't like the changes that were made, besides, of course, the production value. To make sure I wasn't misleading, the album was okay, just not as good as the first recording.

The Ghostship demos had a raw aggression to them that seemed to suit them perfectly. The finished version on this album are much more polished (lots more effects, layered tracks, clean singing) and have a few extra bits added to them. Although lots of the intensity is lost, the rest of the songs are overall, better. The concept and execution of it is one of the most emotional ive heard (compares to the wall IMO). The musicianship is better then anything TFOT have ever put out. The added bits seem slightly out of place on some of the songs though, thats the only thing i see bringing my rating down over time.

Alright, after listening to this a few more times, I am willing to make some concessions. This album still has some of the reckless abandon possessed by the original ghostship yet still feels wrong. Put the vocals from the og shit on these recordings, take away the keys, female accompaniment, pointless deloused-esque wandering in some parts, a couple of pedals from Thoms ridiculous set up, and give him some huevos so maybe he will tone down on the falsetto. That equation might get a winner. Personal preference but some might agree. Thom just seems to have too big of an ego for his own good now. Its over the top and is almost mocking the genre as a whole. For the love of god, get rid of the glockenspiel! Show restraint when necessary, don't over do it, and end songs when they should end. Pt V didn't need 3 different endings even though it was nice to hear the show ender finally put to vinyl/plastic/bits/whateverthefuckitisyouhearditon. Sometimes overdoing it is being lazy. Telling The Fall of Troy to chill out is something I never thought I would have to do to a band I held in such high regards before and seems opposite to their style in general but I think there are people who know what I am talking about. A "classic" this is definitely not. Maybe I am outgrowing them.

all i can say is wow. after listening to the ghostship demos for quite a bit i was definitely ready to hear this. although its re recordings of the old songs with some new bits, its almost as if its totally new material. each song just stands out so strong, each chapter is so detailed. each listen i find a new guitar loop or section in the mix, even background vocals that i didnt hear before.this is a cd that is definitely meant to be listened to from start to finish, as it is a story and all the songs are connected in some way, with songs that are like 10 minutes long at most but around 5 or 6 minutes. if you've been waiting for this like i have i would say quit waiting and get this ASAP! if its new to you definitely check it out.

I think a lot of people have too much nostalgia up their ass.
At first, I didn't care for this EP so much, but after awhile I realized that it really is much better than the ghostship EP.
Before you say how much you think it sucks, give it a couple of listens to let it sink in.

After the shitfest that is manipulator, the band comes back with quite possibly there BEST album to date. The album has five songs, and the album comes out to be 35-40 minutes long. With new instruments, improved vocals, a new bassist, a consistent flow and a dark sound, this album does more than justice to the band and the original ghost ship demos.
