Well-produced emo/post-hardcore (emocore?) record. I actually think some of the best parts on the album are the clean sections (the break in "Smile in Your Sleep") though Silverstein know how to bring the heavy as well (the outro of "Already Dead"). I also really enjoy the title track; it's a song that could have easily gone corny, but Silverstein play it just right. Parts of the album get lost in the shuffle, and some of the vocals are a bit much (the repeated 'When you's!' in the aforementioned "Already Dead") but Discovering the Waterfront is, while quite derivative, enjoyable in spurts.

This is an album, along with a handful of others, that helped me get into the kind of music
I like today, eventually even leading me to like bands such as Opeth, In Flames, and most
things in the spectrum of "heavy" music. Years later, this album is still a classic to me,
and I love every song.

Good and bad news from me. The bad news is that even though there are good rock songs, there isn't a true hit here. In places, the album sounds rough around the edges. The recording isn't perfect, the vocals can be shaky while in the low range. I haven't heard their newer material yet, but this sounds like something a young band would make.The good news is that the band can write songs that move and have life. Rockin' drum beats, a creative bass line, solid guitar parts, and powerful vocals mix together to create an energetic album. Although there is screaming, there is not an excess, and a non-fan of screaming may like the music enough to not mind. Also, there is a huge potential for this band. I can listen to this CD anytime.
