3.5 great | YouAreMySilence | December 23rd 08 | My opinuin on this is abit biased with me thinking that Dustin Kensrue is one of the best songwriters to date but, even for a Christmas record, this is still very well done. He masters Baby Please Come Home, O Holy Night and almost every other carol he plays, while his two originals are what makes this album one of the best of 2008, mainly, arguably the best song thats ever been under his solo project, This Is War.
" This is war on sin and death;
The dark will take it's final breath.
It shakes the earth, confounds all plans;
The mystery of God as man. "

Obviously my brain works a little bit differently from Dustin Kensrue's as he has named his collection of Christmas songs after a line in Bukowski's poem "Some Notes on Bach and Hayden." But name origins aside, Kensrue's second solo album is a quaint collection of yuletide staples that, while it wont replace Bing Crosby or Louis Armstrong as the soundtrack to your Christmas morning, will definitely get you in the mood for some holiday cheer.
