Meat Puppets II is unquestionably one of hardcore punk's most seminal albums. The Kirkwood Bros., along with drummer Derrick Bostrom, were among first punk-rockers to seamlessly blend '80s hardcore with country, folk, and bluegrass and then wrap it all up in a vaguely unsettling psychedelic atmosphere. Besides Television's Marquee Moon, this just might be one of the few punk albums to ever have honest-to-god musical roots in the music and guitar playing of the late great Jerry Garcia. Meat Puppets II is a songwriting-based punk album, in the vein of Murmur by REM. Like Murmur, Meat Puppets II is virtually flawless although "Lake of Fire" is the finest tune on here. Give Meat Puppets II a spin--or a million spins for that matter: it's as mind-blowing as any hallucinogen found in the Arizona desert.

the mix of punk and country on some of those song, make for a really silly sounding sound, but when they nailed it, damn those songs slaps, like Split myself in Two, Plateau or even Aurora Borealis are good examples. Glad ive listen to it tho, 3,6/5

Aside the "Nirvana" tracks (i know that they did covers of that songs just for the unplugged), Meat Puppets have their talents. Aurora Borealis is pure gold. A must listen.

From out of nowhere, there's this warm, moist feeling that fills my heart. After embarking on a quest to comprehend the nature that is Meat Puppets II, a scruffy man catches me in his vicinity as he holds a cold bottle of beer. For whatever reason, he gyrates over to where I'm standing and asks, "Hey, boy! I've been noticin' your ass lately. Why were you given emotions?" I spit on the ground and proceed to wave this album in the guy's deformed mug. Without a word, I then walk off into the sunset, and the man falls on his back in astonishment. Tl;dr version for those who don't care for narratives: Let the record speak for itself, because this particular fusion of psychedelic effects, country-style rock, and sincerity is too incredible to further explain.
