I'm gonna take a stand and say that Possessed is, in fact, a death metal band. Perhaps even pure... uncut.

Pretty much all the tracks on this album are great, but the second half is better constructed -- it mixes "slow" with fast, unlike the first half that's just fucking balls out speed -- and is easier to listen to in one setting.

A tad too long for it's own good. This is a nice restoration of mid 80' music sensibilities and style with modern production. Any fan of old school thrash/death should be satisfied.

a 33 year comeback is quite the venture, album isnt too bad thrash but there could have been more variety in the lyrics than constant rhymes and 54 minutes worth wasnt necessary

Basically just exactly what Possessed out with their first 2 LPs and their EP. Solid death metal vocalised thrash. This one sounds much more like pure thrash to me, probably due to the quite typical modern thrash tone/production. Although I was honestly impressed by how solid the record was considering how long it?s been since their last, the reason it?s a 3 is becuase there wasn?t anything new or exciting. The only songs with any hint of unexplored territory were Oath and The Word, Oath being a clear standout track imo

I went into this expecting nothing and what do you know? Nothing I got. Chances for this band to have made some at least worthy of being put together with their classics were almost 0 since Mike Torrao, the principle songwriter on the 80s stuff is not part of the band. The only good thing about this album is the production quality. The songwriting is mediocre all across the board. The vocals, while still good, are inferior to the vocal quality Becerra provided in the 80s. Becerra was so proud of his band contributing to the development of death metal yet they now devolved into a thrash band. So, 3 more albums and they will play what? Power metal? There is a good section in one of the songs, forgot which one, but overall this album is mediocre, even outright shit on some occasions. The current Possessed has no songwriter in their ranks who can elevate their music beyond boredomness.
