The awful combination of underdeveloped, yet over embellished.
The melodies, especially the chorus melodies, are uniformly dull - have they run out of song
writing melody ideas? It would seem so.
Nice layering and a revolving cast of (oft ill-fitting?) female singers will do little to distract me in
the long term.
Disappointment of 2019.

Like Trouble Will Find Me meets EL VY, The National pursue a much lighter direction with upbeat rhythms and a plethora of guest musicians, including numerous female vocalists. This new style magnifies the holes of light in the darker atmospheres of Boxer, Trouble..., and Sleep Well Beast, being just as sprawling as those but more scattershot. I Am Easy to Find is by no means as magnificent as The National's classics, but it's clear the band's music is still elegant and passionate with some rewarding new dimensions.

Let's face it, this is not the most engaging album by the band here, and I really hoped they will do another nocturnal, urgent sing-alongs like Terrible Love. But what stands out is the beauty crafted in this album is its beauty within it. The recruitment of numerous female vocalists and the use of lighter sounds makes this album their perhaps most elegant release, which fits how old the band are now (20 years and counting). I recommend multiple listenings instead of jumping towards the conclusion that this is a "snoozefest". In fact, it's more like a hypnotic beauty that is more like a collection of lullabies that self-reflects the band's past.

On this album the National are yet again trying somethng new, which I always appreciate. The new direction features extensive arrangements with lots of vocals, especially vocals by women. This actually works quite well. The biggest problem that I have with this album is that it doesn't have many strong songs, and that's why it doesn't live up to previous albums. Of yourse I like a couple of songs very much, for example "Quiet Light" is amazing, and the title track too because of the "ticker tape" line. But many songs just don't seem exciting after many listens, expecially on the second half of the record. When it comes to the lyrics, I think that these don't stand out like in other National albums, either. I have to point out that I enjoyed the album surprisingly much after going back to it after a long break, which is nice.r

Without taking anything away from the talent that is still so great and the great notoriety of The National, after all the wonders we have had, it is normal that the group should lower a little bit of speed. I Am Easy To Find is a very good album because it has all the identity/sound of the band as well as some great songs (Light Years, Rylan for example), but sometimes I felt like I got lost at times, because the album is very homogeneous and too long for my taste. I would have very honestly removed at least a few tracks to keep only 10 and then I think I would have had a different opinion because the album would not have seemed the same to me. Surprisingly, it's rather rare but the end of the album is much better for me.

A new approach find The National participating alongside incredible female vocalists such as Lisa Hannigan, Sharon Van Etten, and Mina Tindle in sounds that come across as a dialogue instead of a monologue. The results are thrilling: the call and response of Not In Kansas is an emotional triumph, and "classic" National songs like "Rylan" gain additional dimension.
