| 0.0 | Observer EMERITUS | March 1st 19 | Phantoms sees Marianas Trench jumping back from the convoluted, over-long mess that was Astoria to
deliver their biggest bid for crossover success in Phantoms. The theatrics are scaled back
(relatively), and what's left is the band playing strictly to their strengths --pop hooks and
Ramsay's vocal range -- across the album's much shorter ten tracks. There is certainly bombast to
be had here, as seen in all prior releases after 2009, but this time the band doesn't over do it
with some grand narrative or anything like that. If you loved Ever After's singles back in 2011,
you will love this.

| 4.0 excellent | Toondude | March 8th 19 | definitely one of the better pop rock albums in recent years

| 0.0 | figurehead of "built different" | March 4th 19 | 17 years into his career as a songwriter and Josh Ramsay's nearly-unparalleled pop acumen is still largely intact, and only somewhat marred by a willingness to indulge in modern (over)production tropes. Also it's of course nice to see Roger J. Manning still getting work in 2019.
