1.0 awful | doofy | March 29th 19 | 'When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?' - nowhere, during REM sleep (the deep sleep where
most recalled dreams occur) your eyes continue to move but the rest of the body's muscles are
stopped, potentially to prevent injury.

2.5 average | VoidatZenith | August 16th 19 | People nowadays are ranting and raving about this artist as if her music is so revolutionary. In reality, the music is pretty dime a dozen and her vocal delivery is as well. Then the lyrics are what you?d expect from a teen who has been influenced by the lazy pop acts that have filled this decade. If you?re into music where the artist sounds like they?re half asleep and only half trying, then enjoy. Otherwise, this isn?t really worth your time.

2.0 poor | YungSadgod | March 30th 19 | a full-length album of Bille Eyelash ASMR whispering while her brother is going to hell and back on the production to keep listeners from flatlining out of boredom, and failing miserably. this thing is somehow offensively lowkey and horribly over the top at the same time
alternatively, this is basically sbeve the album and it's really fucking ironic that it came out in the midst of the "14 yo white girls" meme because it's the exact embodiment of that (I mean, listen to 8 and tell me it's not basically white girl mediocre ukulele piece 101)
just to give it some credit, bad guy, bury a friend and you should see me kinda bang but literally everything else ranges from extremely annoying and garishly overacted to so drab it's a crime against humanity, and it all culminates in the closing three fucking ballads back to back, each of which somehow tick both of these boxes and I had to actually force myself to even sit through this thing once from front to back.
TL;DR: All of her success is obscenely unwarranted and the album is about 75% total trash

4.0 excellent | TheManMachine | May 10th 19 | An extremely exclamatory preface of Invisalign discard and pompous laughin' kinda seals Billie+bro's notoriety as home-school rich-kid youngun weirdos whose sudden fame is mystifying. Turns out the dubious duo have made a minor masterpiece in melding pop, throbbed bass, stark minimalism -- accessibility on top of meticulosity, distortions, secrets, whispers. Through a rollercoaster flow she dons the crown with cool calm, possessing a perspicacity and pipe-restraint that is rather frightening for a 17-year old. Coldness with chuckles and heart and a stunningly sad triad of ballads to wrap it up, and even when its quietude and uke are a bit yawn-inducing you value that they go there. Having to honestly confront your xan-fueled friends and sampling The Office: ah, to be young in 2019.

2.4 average | Erwann S. STAFF | September 5th 22 | Dark alt muzak. Eilish's vocal delivery is mostly lazy and displays little to no emotions, and the electropop soundscape is alright but relies way too much on the "heavy bass & fingers snapping" combo to stay interesting in the long run - and very often the music is way too subdued to leverage its doomer vibe. There definitely are some good ideas here - the "bad guy" hook or the last couple of tracks that have interesting melodies -, but When We All Fall Asleep mostly fails in not putting enough meat around its pretty-looking bones.

3.0 good | Bedex | March 10th 22 | Lyrics notwithstanding, the album's biggest fault is to preface itself with two of its danciest, bangerest tracks which sets us to expect a pop album where in fact this is mostly low energy and quite subdued. Indeed after the ultra(over?)famous 2 and the actually really cool distorted halloween vibes from 3 ending on a soft piano, there is little in the way of hooks or energy. 4 is quite nice with her voice but the woob woob is a bit dumb, 5 is an upper okay cute track with great grain in the voice, the intro on 6 is very zzz which the beat coming later struggles to counteract, and 7 is an alright pretty ballad but that is just misplaced energy wise. Whilst the baby voice us a bit annoying, 8 is the first track that distinguishes itself a bit more, but it evolves into an alright relax track that isnt what the album needed. 9 despite its The Office samples finally stands above hte rest (whilst not being a jam) and brings back some energy, which 10 keeps up with its Banks' III-esque aesthetic. 11 works well with the artwork and it again has more meat and recognisable stuff to it. Then 12 is a not bad but again misplaced piano ballad, and 13 is a trakc I could have loved elswhere but is again too calm here. Melody reminds me of Zelda and also Hallelujah in places and the vocal prod is interesting and subtle. I think 14 is a very neat way to conclude and I like that there is a conclusion track to speak of at all, let alone a good one. 3.3

3.0 good | BlitzPhoenix98 | August 18th 20 | Give it a rest, people; she was only 17 years old at the time of this album. Think of it as Pure Heroine without some controversial songs ("Wish You Were Gay") and you have yourself a respectable debut album. She will get better and improve her style onwards.

3.5 great | cjbizzlebizzle | August 19th 19 | The hottest and most argued about album of 2019. Not much to add here but as someone who came into this album without knowing much of the controversy before listening its a really solid pop album. Much stronger in the first half and sort of fizzles in the latter half (post 'My Strange Addiction', though 'I Love You' rules); maybe a bit more attention to the track order could have gone a long way. Great execution to create dark and ominous moods while remaining extremely catchy and poppy. The beats, awesome booming synthy bass and production help produce these effects as does Billie's vocals; kudos on both fronts. One of the coolest things about this album is how it is often very quiet and minimal. There are often long sections of true loneliness with just Billie's voice and a barebones synth line to escort you that feel pretty unique to this record. Her vocal style matches the beats and synth parts very well. An album that many people have probably spent more time arguing about/drumming up conspiracies than actually listening to but in the end, for many reasons, it is one of the more interesting mega-popular mainstream albums in a long time.

4.5 superb | Doublez38 | July 22nd 19 | Billie is a surprising and talented artist. While she is still so young, this second production of an album which Willy remain a masterpiece of Pop music by the influence it will have. Althought by it?s young age we inevitably find lyrical lightness, its here very supplemented by the emotion that emerges from these texts. Billie is where we didn?t expect her especially, its a quality that great artists often possess. Its a bold counterfoot. Moreover, another strong symptom: imperfections and defects become strong points. I also really appreciated the end of the album, more traditional pop where there is a « mini symphony » that couldn?t stop me from thinking about the end of Abbey Road album (in this concept). We are facing one of the most important albums of the year

4.5 superb | encomium | April 28th 19 | Despite already having the opinion that Eilish is fake deep, I went into this with an open mind. For one because I generally love pop as long as it doesn't take itself too seriously. Not to mention there are countless other artists who have cringey public personas that I love once I checked out their music. rBut...this is not one of those instances. Billie Eilish's debut is just barely enough to stomach, which means it'll be hyped up for the remainder of the year like it isn't anything anyone could make. There are some interesting ideas in here, but it has all these unnecessary generic trap influenced beats and mindlessly dull lyrics. And that's not even mentioning Eilish's bored singing. Her bored voice would be fine if it had any kind of uniqueness to it, but it doesn't. In the end, Billie Eilish's debut record ends up being forgettable, generic, and downright cringeworthy.

3.5 great | SinNanna | April 6th 19 | I like many others had a lot of initial annoyance towards Billie due to all the extensive PR promotion that I had to run into since last year, and even though I got over it, I can't blame anyone who still hasn't at this point. Listening and returning to this record though, I found myself being impressed to an extent that I would never have seen myself be with an artist of Billie's caliber. From the beat switch on Bad Guy, the beautiful vocal lines all over Xanny, the trebly bass riffing on All The Good Girls Go To Hell, the sweet and sticky hook of Wish You Were Gay, the sad, warbled pre-chorus on ilomilo and the mournful balladry of Listen Before I Go, Billie and her brother Finneas serve the listener with some lowkey but still well groomed production and songwriting. I do find Billie's tendency to use her almost whisper-quiet vocal delivery as a crutch to be somewhat grating, and even though she definitely makes attempts throughout to make her vocals a bit more dynamic, I wish she would do it way more often. The lyrics can run a little edgy, but I don't find them anywhere close to the melodramatic, tear stained diary-level poetry that I was expecting to get, and actually think there are moments where they're kinda clever and witty. I unfortunately, despite the commendable consistency of the music, find some parts to be less memorable and maybe a bit bland, like the choruses of You should See Me In A Crown and Bury A Friend which got old for me way too quickly. Overall, I do walk away liking this album, and I see Billie as an artist who has taken a pretty big step into coming more into her own.
